A Broken Chord

By KMD

All his life, people had always called Arpeggio a broken chord. He wasn't too sure whether it was just a reference to his name, or if they knew he suffered dearly from his problem of not being able to fly. Not being able to reach his life-long dream. Nobody knew him anymore. Nobody noticed him. People who passed by him never gave him so much as a sideways glance. His old friends from his boarding school had moved on to bigger and better things in life. The KLAWW gang was no longer, as the gang of thieves had all split up and continued with their own lives. He felt truly alone in this world.

He never got a chance at love, as he had never met girls, and the ones he did know were more interested in the larger, more muscular men. The closest he had ever gotten was with Neyla, and he only considered her a friend – well, ex-friend, anyways. He had never been able to experience the true feeling of having a soul-mate. To tell the truth, Arpeggio never really gave a thought about it. He was too obsessed with his own problems before he ever gave a care about it. Nowadays, he wished he did.

So he wouldn't feel completely alone.

So he could come home after a bad day that just never seemed to end to curl up beside her and forget all of his thoughts and troubles.

He started to realize what people meant when they called him a broken chord. If life were music, and people were the keys and strings, he would be the broken chord that always messed up the night's performance and got in everybody's way. In actual life, Arpeggio had set up an entire plan that revolved around making people eat food covered in illegal spice, then let loose on a hypnotic light show to make them all hate, all for his own selfish purposes.

It didn't seem so surprising why people hated him – he had nearly put them all under hypnosis, made them all hate, all because of his inability to fly, and his desire for immortality. He would've probably hated himself too, if he hadn't already. If he had been able to fly, like the rest of his classmates and friends, the mess he had created wouldn't have happened. None of the events of the Clockwerk parts being stolen, and Sly Cooper and his gang coming after them one by one would've occurred.

Arpeggio had always wondered if his parents had the same problem he had – not being able to fly. If it was hereditary, or just his own seemingly cursed luck. He never knew them, so he couldn't exactly look at them and figure it out. He didn't even know his last name, so finding them would be close to impossible. He wondered if they were already deceased, or just living somewhere far away in a place in which he'd never find them.

Another thing puzzled him: why did they put him in a boarding school? Was he not good enough for them? Did they not want a child?

Or did they just not have enough money to keep him around?

Arpeggio knew that none of the questions he asked himself would be answered anytime soon, and cursed himself for even thinking of them.

He started to realize that he didn't really have anything in life to live for. He didn't know his parents, his friends were gone, his gang split up, his blimp – his home – destroyed. No home, no love, no friends,

no existence...

Arpeggio's life was completely ruined, due to his inability.

Sitting on the steps leading into the large lake, and dipping his talons into the water, he wondered if he should just end his misery right then and there. No one was around except for the common tourist that would pass by, but they didn't give a care one way or another.

He was, after all, a broken chord.

And no one could fix him...

so whadja think of my first fanfic? i know, its kind of a depressing fanfic for a first-time thing, but still. Arpeggio's my favorite villian from the Sly Cooper series, and you can't find much of him. sooo... yeah. please review!
