"Is it more of this... this acting thing. Because you can forget that."

"IT'S NOT AN ACTING THING," Neil said, "It is MY LIFE. It is what makes me happy and I LOVE IT. You can cut me off financially. I will keep acting. You can take me away from that school and I will run away from that military school. You don't control me anymore."

"You have no idea what you're doing to yourself."

"Yes I do father. I know what I'm doing. I'm becoming my own person."

"And how will you live? How will you support yourself? You're living in pretend land."

"No. I am living my life and not the life you want me to live"

"I don't understand you Neil. The odds of you getting an acting job... a REAL acting job is slim to none. Do you have any idea how many people have tried for that. If you became a doctor-"

"I DON'T WANT TO BECOME A DR. I DON'T LIKE COMPLICATED. I DON'T LIKE GROSS. I LIKE FOR THINGS TO BE SIMPLE."

"WELL WE CAN'T GET EVERYTHING WE WANT NOW CAN WE," Dr. Perry exploded.

"I can," Neil said, "I'm not going to medical school. I am going to NYU and study theater arts."

"I FORBID IT"

"It's already done," Neil said, "I applied and was accepted."

"I WILL NOT PAY FOR IT," Dr. Perry roared.

"I don't care," Neil said, "I don't need your money. That's never been what I needed from you."

"What do you need then," Dr. Perry asked.

"Something I could never get," Neil replied, "I need you to love me."
Dr. Perry sighed.

"I do love you Neil. Why do you think I push for you to become a doctor. It will secure your life."

"But it's what you want," Neil said, "I want acting. My way of thinking is not wrong. More to the point it's right and you know it and mom knows it and I know it."

"Neil I'll make a deal with you," Dr. Perry said, "I will support you through the acting for two years and your way of thinking. If at that time you have made something of yourself and proven to me your way of thinking is right then I will continue to support you. If not you go back to doing things my way."

"You have a deal," Neil replied
