I know I'm a little late publishing the first part as I promised, but here it is. I said it would either last weekend or early this week, and here I am at 6 PM on Wednesday. Heh...oh, well. In all honesty, it's been done for a while, but I had THE HARDEST TIME EVER picking a title. Then I finally admitted defeat and asked for help from a friend of mine. I'd give her name, but she doesn't really like me doing that online, so I won't, but mentally give her thanks and everything. Here is the prologue for my new Midnight centered book. (PS: I have no idea just how long this book will be. If I had to take a guess, it would be most likely until the end of the Alvarez Arc, because I don't really want to go through 100 Year Quest in this) ((PPS: I HAVE FINISHED THE MANGA! I'm now entirely caught up, and reading 100 Year Quest, too, so y'all don't have to be worried about spoiling me anymore, haha! Ahem, yeah, anyways, the prologue is up now...so enjoy!))
Years before, if someone were to ask Macbeth about his childhood, he probably would have snapped and killed them in an instant. The mere word brought up horrible memories of prison cells, painful torture, and several upon several sleepless nights. But the most painful memories of all were the ones pertaining to the girl he'd shared a cell with.
It had been over ten years since he last saw her, but he remembered every last thing about her. The short, choppy chestnut colored hair, the mesmerizing blue-green color of her eyes, the ivory tone of her skin. He remembered the sound of her voice most of all, the way she used to sing him lullabies in an attempt to help him sleep.
For the longest time, he'd been forced to push those memories to the back of his mind. The only thing he was able to think about for all those years in which he'd worked for Brain was what he could do for him. Of course, those days were over now; Brain was no more, and he was finally free to do what he wanted to do.
Except...the only thing he really wanted was her, and he was sure she was dead by now.
It had been ten years since they'd last seen each other, ten years since he realized he'd fallen in love with that sweet, happy-go-lucky young girl who'd once shared a prison cell with him. Despite everything that had happened to them both during their imprisonment and enslavement in the Tower of Heaven, she had never once cried. She'd always been right there for him, though.
It was devastating to think of her smile being lost to the world forever.
These were thoughts that plagued him at all hours of every day, and he knew Erik could definitely hear him, but he never mentioned anything of it. Macbeth never said anything to any of the others, either. Alsie was dead, and there wasn't any way he could change that; he had to move on. But she hadn't made it easy for him to forget her.
He tried, oh how he tried. He put all of his focus into training and helping with the other members of his new guild, Crime Sorcière. It was still slightly weird to think that he was really a member of a guild, even if they weren't completely legitimate. Either way, it counted.
For months, he stuck to that same path. After the battle between the Fairy Tail wizards and Tartaros had passed, they were all shocked to hear of Fairy Tail's disbandment. None of them had ever imagined Makarov would do something so drastic, especially when their guild had only recently earned their former respect back.
Of course, Jellal was distraught after hearing that most of Fairy Tail's members had scattered, and understandably so, as he was more than likely worried sick about Erza. Macbeth guessed that their next objective would probably to track her down as quickly as possible.
But what did happen was the farthest thing from what he had been expecting. In the span of a single night, his entire world would be turned on its head. But, looking back on it, he knew that he wouldn't change a single second of it.
This is probably kind of bad, I know. But I was having a hard time trying to figure out how to end the prologue, especially since I mainly just wanted to use it to show the relationship between Macbeth and my OC, Alsie. I assure you, the actual first chapter will be much, much better, although I can't say for sure when it'll be up. I hope you'll stick around anyways, and be sure to check out my Nanatsu no Taizai fanfiction, Body & Soul, as well! See ya!
