An Angel in Green
Alice tells some interesting tales of her life in Overland, and one story that Stayne finds fascinating is about angels. He asks Alice what angels are.
"They are heavenly beings in white that aid and help those in need," she answers, and Stayne ponders this.
"Do they help the good or the evil?"
"They do not discriminate, but it is the misguided that need their help more often."
Stayne smiles. Some things are true no matter what world one belongs to-the misguided here could use some divine intervention. Oh, there's Time, but he is more of an aloof Deity, content to let Underland go about its business with a minimum of effort on His part-though woe be to any who insult him.
Stayne is about to ask his next question-what angels look like-when a thought hits him.
He already knows.
Maybe in Overland, angels are dressed in white garments and have wings, but here things are much simpler. Here, an angel can be dressed in green.
His angel has no wings, no magical powers, and very rarely wears white. But she has compassion, love, and an understanding and gentle nature. She was the one to guide him back to the Light after living for so long in the Dark.
And it is Heaven, pure and simple.
