a/n: Little drabble I had on my mind. Sorry for the darkness... I don't have many sad stories so ya... I might offend a few people, so I apologize in advance!
Firestar took in the bloodstained clearing.
It had been many moons since Thunderclan had seen peace.
Nothing seemed to be going right for Firestar anymore. All he had before was taken from him in seconds. His daughter, Leafpool, had left for the mountains after her love for Crowfeather had been exposed. His loyal deputy, Brambleclaw, had been injured very seriously on a border skirmish, and even though Jayfeather did the best he could, he later died. Squirrelflight had never made up with him and entered a deep state a depression, while Sandstorm was in agony, for she couldn't stand seeing her daughter go through this.
And now, many more loved ones would just be memories.
Firestar was about to turn back and head to camp, when he saw something remarkable on the horizon. There, padding toward him, was none other than Bluestar. He was at a loss for words as he stared at the past leader. She stopped inches away from where he was standing. He watched as she took in the clearing with a glance, and then focused back on him.
"Turning your back on your clan, are we?"
"Are you implying I started this?"
"No, no I'm not accusing you of anything. Except..."
"Except what?", Firestar snarled. Suprised himself at his ferocity, he took a step backwards. But unlike him, Bluestar didn't seem fazed. She must have seen the flicker of doubt in his eyes, because her face suddenly displayed her emotions.
"Firestar, they need you."
He scoffed. "Need me? They turned their back on me. They looked down upon me, and now look what has happened.
Now she backed up warily.
He winced. I'm sorry Bluestar." He sighed. "I guess... I'm not young anymore. I'm not the picture of strength, leading the clans into battle. "
She nodded in understanding, urging him to continue.
"It's just... The fire died out. I can't fight to keep it alive any longer."
Bluestar was startled with his words at first, then she remembered he last days as leader.
"I... know. Just promise me one thing."
"Yes?"
There was a pause.
"Don't make the same mistakes I did."
They both turned around to look at the spot where Lionblaze, Firestar's new deputy, was trudging up the hill, calling for Firestar.
Firestar blinked knowingly, then touched Bluestar's ear.
Bluestar was gone.
Firestar watched Lionblaze a little longer while pondering the confusing conversation. Then he called out,
"I'm right up here Lionblaze. Come on, it's time to go home."
