Trouble-maker

"Dylan I am going to castrate you!" yelled a very peeved Spinner. Poor Spinner had just been the butt of a prank involving a water balloon from yours truly. He kinda looked like a drowned rat...the very thought caused Dylan to laugh even harder, on the ground in a fit of giggles by this point anyway.

Dylan breathed for a second. Only one thing could stop him from laughing at the drenched Spinner. Marco. Marco and his damned smile.

Many people liked to call Dylan a trouble-maker. And, in some ways, maybe he was. Especially in highschool. From the dares he took in the locker room to the egging of his calculus teacher's car. Everywhere you looked while he was at Degrassi High you could see a prank that was his handiwork.

Yes, perhaps then Dylan had been a touble-maker, but not now.

You see, he stopped being a touble-maker when he met Marco. It was his last year of highschool and on a beach trip he had been introduced to him. The one thing that he really noticed about this boy was his smile.

Radiant was the only word for it. It was big and warm and always accompanied by a laugh. To this very day Dylan still thinks it's the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.

Ever since that day, Dylan has had a new reason to pull stupid stunts....to see Marco smile.

After the beach trip he pulled every single prank he could think of. The reward? To see that brilliant grin in his direction. To have the attention on the only boy he had ever cared to impress. What other reason could there be?

He and Marco had started dating a couple of monthes after that, and, if anything, Dylan's trouble-making intensified. He had started to get to know Marco and liked what he had found, giving the smile a new depth and making it even more intense to him.

During college Dylan pulled every stunt in the book. Had even been arrested twice. But, in his eyes, it was all worth it, because only he go to hear Marco laugh about it over the phone later that night. Only he was blessed with that privilege.

Recently, Dylan had finished college and rented out an apartment. Marco had moved in about two monthes ago, and he couldn't remember when he'd ever been happier. Late nights watching movies, complete with popcorn fights and snuggling. Sleeping in the same room, let alone the same bed. Cooking dinner together with the radio on, singing together on their wooden spoons occasionally. Life couldn't be better.

Tonight was Paige's birthday and they were having it at his apartment. Of course, Paige was rather upset when she got there to find Marco on the living room floor being tickled to death by Dylan, and the room a complete mess beyond them.

There were streamers hanging from every possible thing except the ceiling. Confetti littered the floor and Marco's hair. Frosting was all over the cabinets and flour covered the kitchen floor. There were even deflated balloons every two feet. It was a mystery how two guys could ever create such a mess.

Dylan, listening to Paige yell at him later, could only roll his eyes, smile his secret little smile, and continue cleaning up his mess.

He had a reason after all. Paige should throw all the blame on Marco's smile. It was at fault here. Not him.

Ask anyone. Dylan wasn't a trouble-maker. The smile made him do it.
