A Different Darkness

Alex Wesker, sister to Albert Wesker, had failed to take over Natalia's body. Though her attempt had faltered, her shadow still lingered within the young child. Natalia was now alone on a remote beach on the island. She spotted something in the distance.

"A boat…"

It was then that a mysterious voice called to her from a nearby location.

"Who are you?"

She turned around. The sight that greeted her was one of a long-haired man in dark clothes sitting near one of the beach's rock formations.

"My name is Natalia. Who are you?"

"My name is Damian."

"What are you doing here?"

"I guess you could say I'm a bit of a traveler."

"It's not safe here."

"I know that now. I didn't expect any monsters to be here. This place is infested with them."

"I don't know what's happening. I woke up in a building somewhere. Someone that looked like me guided me here."

"I know."

Natalia was stunned.

"How did you know that?"

"I have special powers."

"Powers?"

"Yeah. One of those powers is the ability to sense dark beings. Whoever led you here was impersonating your appearance to try and trick you."

"Trick…Me…?"

Damian stood up and moved closer to Natalia.

"Exactly. They were pretending to be the dark version of you."

"What do you mean?"

"Every person has a dark half to them. That's an inescapable fact of life. However, we have complete control over them. To use your dark half for good or evil is your choice. I'm guessing whoever was impersonating your dark half said bad things, didn't they?"

Natalia nodded her head.

"Yeah."

"That's how you know if it's your true dark half or not. If it acts somewhat like you, then it's probably the true one. If it doesn't, that's when you have to summon all the strength you have and cast out the imposter."

"I'm scared of the dark."

"Don't be afraid. If you join your soul with that of your dark half, you'll become immeasurably powerful. It'll make it all the easier to know which is which."

"How do I do that?"

"Search your mind. Look deep into your own thoughts, and you'll find her there."

"What'll happen?"

"Your heart will feel heavy for a while, but that will go away with time. The more you get to know your dark self, the easier it will be to deal with the emotions that come with it."

"…Thanks for telling me."

"Before I go, I have one more thing to tell you."

"Hm?"

"There are two types of darkness; good and evil. This is where you make your choice between the two."

"I choose good."

"I'll let you in on a secret; the good can become much more powerful than the evil. It's up to you to make it stronger."

"How."

"Don't fear it or push it away. Accept it fully and completely. It will become your greatest friend and ally."

"Right."

"I've got to go now. I've already overstayed my welcome."

"Can you help me get to somewhere safe?"

"There's a boat coming here. They can probably help you better than I could. Wait for them, okay?"

Natalia was puzzled, but her instincts told her to trust Damian.

"Okay."

"Goodbye."

"Bye."

With their conversation at its end, Damian took his leave. Natalia stared into the ocean waters. Her perilous journey was about to begin.
