Conviction
She
talks so rapidly and so full of conviction that, for a brief moment,
Xena toys with the idea of letting this girl come along. Let this
girl fill up the hours of silence; possibly fill up the hole in
Xena's life and in Xena's heart.
Hercules
ripped back the veil and the warrior princess is now standing out in
the open, exposed.
This
girl is begging for a chance to be... What
is it you are looking for in me? Who do you think I am? And who will
I be if I am with you?
She
is so quiet and exuding so much strength that, for a brief moment,
Gabrielle is doubtful that this warrior will listen to a village
girl's plea. This warrior might shove her aside, might ignore the
ache within Gabrielle's green eyes, shut out a companion and a friend
in the warrior's midst.
Xena
ripped back the veil and Gabrielle is now standing out in the open,
free.
This
warrior needs a place to be... What
can I give to her? Who is she looking for? And who will I be if I am
with her?
They stare at each other for so long and with such intensity that, for a brief moment, they wonder if this is somehow a push from the Fates. Letting them in on a secret, one that rests in each other's lives and one that will somehow join them in a bond stronger than the gods.
"Don't
follow me. I mean it." Xena says as she walks out, closing the
door on something that makes no sense to her mind.
And
Gabrielle, not one for denying the truth, hears all that is unsaid
and knows that she will follow the warrior anywhere.
