Lance loved the rain. It was one of the things that he missed most about Earth, but he didn't like it when the rain came from his eyes.
Keith had left, he had left for the Blade of Marmora and there was nothing he could do about it. He played it off with a smile but his heart was shattering. Every time Team Voltron had done one of those absolutely ridiculous performances for the Voltron Coalition, he'd thought of Keith and of the bonding moment which he'd denied. He still remembered Keith's smile and the way his arms felt. He remembered how Keith had finally confessed his feelings. "For some reason, I'm attracted to you," he had said. He was always the bold one, Lance missed that.
Lance had been fallen apart when Keith left. He was the first person Keith had told, aside from Shiro. Lance had cried hard at the news when he was alone in his room. He had to keep his cool in front of the team. Lance had managed not to break down like his heart, in front of the other paladins.
Lance could only hope that Keith would return in a timely manner. He had made no promises. Lance could only hope that Keith would return in one piece.
Lance knew why Keith had felt it necessary for him to leave for the Marmora. That didn't mean he agreed. Keith belonged at Voltron, he belonged with his family. Lance considered the team to be his family, they were his home away from home. The castle and the team were the only home and family Keith had ever known. Lance couldn't imagine being willing to leave that; his heart still ached at the thought of his family on Earth.
Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Bring back the nights when I held you beside me
Lance had toyed with the idea of jumping in his lion and flying down to the Marmora's base and dragging Keith back to Team Voltron, but he knew that was not a good idea. Just because it was horribly misguided didn't mean that Lance didn't daydream about showing up and sweeping Keith up in his arms.
Lance tried to find solace in his friends and mostly he could, but mostly wasn't enough. Nothing would be enough until Keith was finally reunited with the team. Keith may think he was, but he was not where he belonged. He was not with his real family. Voltron was his family; the Marmora was not Keith's family. Keith was already so willing to put the mission before himself, and Lance feared that the Marmora was only making the problem worse.
He stared out one of many windows in the Castle of Lions, wondering what Keith was doing and if he was thinking of him in return.
