Authors Note: I always wanted to do a story in the aftermath or Eddie's death and this suddenly came to me.

Post-Mortem

"Eddie," Catherine screamed out as she sat up in bed, cold sweating and shaking like a leaf. It was then the truth hit her, he was not there, nor would he ever be again. He was forever gone. Silent tears were running down her cheeks by the realization of this. She was more alone than ever now that he was gone.

She of course knew this the night before, when she had in the end fallen asleep from crying with Lindsey asleep on top of her. Still it wasn't until this moment after waking up so many hours later it hit her…that she was all alone.

There was no one to fight over Lindsey with, no one to go to for a little cuddle for old time's sake. No one that would drive her up the wall. No one that could make her feel like he could.

She looked over at the spot next to her in bed, which once belonged to Eddie. At least before she had enough and kicked him out. Now Lindsey was sleeping peacefully there.

Lindsey, the only thing besides the memories she had left after him. She was the only great thing they made.

More tears were falling down her cheeks as she was wondering what she was going to do now.

Even if Ed had been a pain in the ass at times, he had still been a wonderful father to their little girl. A young girl that now would grow up without a father.

Catherine quietly got out of bed to not wake up Lindsey and walked down to the living room where she could sob freely without waking her.

"Oh Eddie, how could you leave us like this?" she whispered, face in her hands, on her knees crying.

"I can't do this, I can't raise her alone," she sobbed.

Just then when it all seemed so hopeless she could hear her phone ring in the distance. She slowly got up and walked towards the sound on shaky legs.

"Catherine Willows," she answered, hardly managing to utter those words.

"Hey Catherine, it's me, I'm not interrupting am I?" she heard Grissom's steady voice in the other end.

"No you are not," she answered, glad to hear his voice.

"So how are you feeling?" he asked concerned.

"Like a wreck," Catherine answered truthfully.

"Do you want me to come over?" he asked.

"I could never ask you to do that, you are after all still on the clock," said Catherine, the only reason as to why she had taken the rest of her shift off was so she could be with Lindsey in case she was needed.

"I will be there as soon as I can," Grissom promised before hanging up, leaving Catherine to the sea of tears.

When Grissom finally got there he found her asleep in a curl on the floor. She had left the door open for him. He carefully lifted her back up in bed so she could sleep more comfortable, and lifted Lindsey back in her bed, so he could rest with Catherine.

Catherine woke up early morning still resting in Grissom's safe embrace. She smiled a little due to the fact that she was feeling less alone than she had done in ages. She was now feeling what she had always longed for, warm, safe, loved and protected. She couldn't help, but to let a tiny giggle escape feeling something else on his behalf as well. Not that she minded at all. She was just happy he was finally with her.
