"I just have one question," Javert said, "You had the opportunity to be free and yet you chose to turn yourself in. Why?"

"Because," ValJean said, "Despite what you may think I have become an honest man."

Javert looked into ValJean's eyes.

"I don't believe I'm saying this," he said, "But I believe you"

"Thank you"

"You know I should have you remanded back to the prison right?"

"If you think it fitting you should"

"No it is not fitting," Javert said, "You have proved yourself to be an honest man and at the same time you broke parole. Why did you break parole"

"I broke my parole because I had paid for my crime a long time ago. I make a mistake but I had no other way. My sister's only son was close to death. She had four children and he was the youngest. For some reason he could not eat the food that was given him but bread would make him feel better. So I had no choice but to steal the bread. It was too late to go asking for it"

"You still stole!"

"I don't deny that. I'm not trying to excuse my crime"

"ValJean I don't know what to do. If I let you free I am breaking the vow I made to GOD that I would hold people accountable for their actions and yet you appear to have repented."

"It is up to you to do what you think is right. I cannot tell you what to do. That answer must come from the heavenly father alone."

"Jesus died to set free the captives"

"That would be the truth," Jean ValJean replied.

"You are free," Javert said, "But if you break the law again I will be waiting... 24601"
