Conan and the other Detective Boys; Ayumi, Genta, Ai and Mitsuhiko, were heading for the 'Eto' mansion, what the kids - except for Conan and Ai - didn't know was that it was actually Shinichi's house.
While the 'real' first graders were walking along, their flashlights trembling with their fear, Conan and Ai were hanging at the back of the group when Ai said:
"Kudo-kun did you know that with a different kanji, Ai - my name - means love?"
"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I, I live in Japan and learn Japanese do I not? So you're asking me this relatively stupid question - why?"
"K…Kudo-kun…I…"
"I'm not getting any younger here…" said Conan impatiently.
"Come over to Agasa's place tomorrow." said Ai hurriedly.
"I was going to go anyway, he said he had gotten a new gadget for me."
"Oi! What are you two whispering about?" Said a concerned Ayumi.
"Yeah, hurry up would you!" yelled Genta from the front of the group.
"Come on guys. Can't you tell they're having very intimate conversation." Said Mitsuhiko in a sarcastic tone.
'Eeehh?' Conan was surprised that a little first grader had such an extensive vocabulary.

Eventually Conan persuaded the kids that there was nothing to see at the 'Eto' - Kudo - mansion and they all went home.
When Conan got back to Detective Mori's house, he was surprised to see Ran staring at his face, smiling like she'd just won the lottery. All of a sudden she hugged him and wouldn't let go.
'Kuso,' thought Conan, 'she's found out that I'm Shinichi!'
"Congratulations, Conan-kun!" said Ran, letting go of Conan.
"Eh?"
"About your new girlfriend!" said an ecstatic Ran.
"WAAAHH! WHAT GIRLFRIEND?" Screamed Conan.
"Don't pretend you don't know Conan-kun. Ai-chan called earlier and said she wanted to remind you to go over to Agasa's tomorrow. She said she wanted to ask you to something important. I…kinda assumed she was gonna ask you to be her girlfriend…" Ran giggled.
'Was that what Haibara was going to say when we were on the way to my house?'
