Just The Beginning
Lucy looked over her book to her best friends. Even though she hadn't shown it, she felt relieved when she saw Natsu and Happy in her room. The night would have been too hard to go through without them. She had gotten strong with all the training she had done that past year, but it sure did not mean she was ready to face a war against Zeref and his army. And neither was anyone else. Natsu's words were precisely what she needed to hear.
"I don't like that kind of fighting neither. I like to test my powers in a far fight, and that's it."
Happy was sleeping soundly now, and Natsu just looked at him, his cards still in hand.
"I can't believe he slept on me."
Lucy chuckled.
"That strip poker idea was stupid to begin with."
She got up and took Happy in her arms, placing him on the couch and covering him with a blanket.
"Let him rest for a while. Tomorrow will be a hard day."
"Yes, it will."
Lucy sat on the carpet beside Natsu. Was it strange that he was just in his boxers? Yes, definitely. However, right now, why did it matter?
"You know, Natsu, I'm can't even begin to explain to you how glad I am that you found me in Hargeon that day. Thanks to you I was able to enter Fairy Tail and meet everyone."
"Oy, oy. What is that all about, Lucy? Don't get all nostalgic. Fairy Tail will be here tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that."
She pushed her legs close to her chest and rested her face on her knees, looking at him.
"I know. I just… needed to tell you this. I love you, Natsu."
He just smiled to her.
"I love you too."
Wasn't she supposed to be shocked by that statement? Nevertheless, somehow, she was not. Deep down, they had always known, but it also felt natural just to keep their relationship as it was.
He pulled her to his lap and kissed her. Lucy's hands traveled all the way up his arms to his hair, pulling at it as he sucked her tongue and made her moan. Meanwhile, his own hands were in her waist, firmly gripping it.
"You know, Lucy, I've been thinking…" He started, alternating his words with soft kisses on her jaw and neck. "You spend way too much money here. You should come live with us. Happy would be thrilled to have you around."
She smiled and ran her hands through his hair.
"Only Happy would?"
He grinned.
"I would too. Plus, it would spare me the trouble to have to come here and sneak into your bed."
Lucy chuckled.
"The idea just occurred to you or have you thought this out? Things would be different, you know. For one, I would clean you entire house and like it to be kept that way."
Natsu couldn't help but laugh.
"It crossed my mind a number of times. Happy's too."
"Okay, then. I accept it."
He grinned.
"It will be really fun. Like having slumber parties every day."
Trust to Natsu to think like that.
She kissed him one more time, right before the tremors started.
They stared at each other, all lightness replaced by seriousness.
"Keep close, okay?" he asked. "So just as we can have each other's back."
"You too. Don't go flying around with Happy and leave me behind to wonder where you might have gone."
He nodded and they gave one last kiss.
Fairy Tail would win, as it always did. Their family had yet much to grow. It was not over. It was just the beginning.
