Prompt: her mama wiped her tears

Daine sat in the corner of the kitchen, tears falling down as easily as the rain fell from the sky. Her mother hummed sadly as she fixed dinner, watching her little girl out of the corner of her eye.

"Not any better today Daine?" she asked softly, turning to face the girl.

Daine shook her head silently, trying to control the sobs that wracked her little body so violently.

"Oh honey," her mother sighed, kneeling down beside the girl. "I am so sorry."

Daine fell gracelessly into her mother's open arms. They sat holding each other for a while, mother rocking daughter softly.

"Through the wind and the rain, she stands hard as a stone, in a world that she can't rise above. But her dreams, give her wings, and she flies to a place where she's loved," her mother sang softly.

She wiped the tears away from the little girl and kissed her forehead. "You will always be loved Daine, no matter what they call you."
