Beauty and Darkness

A blossom closed for many years, shut off since its birth

Knew not of the light that glowed in the outside world

She had glimpses of that light, of the laughter and love

But had never understood it

Rays of light broke through her closed petals, touching her heart

Inviting her to open her soul and to see the goodness of the light

A ray of light shined through her soul brighter than the rest;

It saw through her and found beauty that she never knew existed,

It showed her what she was missing by closing herself off

Slowly, but surely, her petals finally opened

Her heart was shown for all to see, and she vowed to remain open always

But alas, she soon learned that nothing good can ever last long

What could she do with an open heart and a healing soul?

The light turned away before she could hear the answer

The promises it made were shattered, no more, never existing!

And so, another promise, the one she made, was broken as well

Closed off once more, she vowed to never open her heart again.

Her petals are sealing up once more to protect her heart and soul

But the deeds are done, the promises broken, the liar exposed, the memories printed

In the darkness she shakes at the memories of the charming light

Tears that none will ever see are poured like never before

Whenever she remembers that beam of light,

Which made the promises and broke them again

Laughter has no meaning; joy has lost its power

The beauty of happiness can't last forever,

And what's left when it's gone is absolute darkness,

Hidden behind a wall of ice

That can only be remade when it is melted,

And inside, the heart of the blossom is remade into stone,

Knowing only of the memories of the lies,

The remains of broken promises,

And the cold blanket called darkness
