Picaresque
By SMYGO4EVA
Cyberspace, an all-connecting network of the many cybersites designated to collaborate in the twisted monochrome. The civilians either think of the world as black and white or in rainbow, depending on what they see and what they get. Each kingdom has its own function to the conglomerate that solidifies the technological system of our world, being taken for granted so much that is has become the air they breathe. They have begun to see themselves as tools. They had forgotten who they were and what their humanity meant to them; they were constants and nothing more.
Cyberspace is ruled a benevolent ruler known as Motherboard, who would always know what would happen in a time of crisis. She would know if the final days would come, always knowing and yet fearing it. The civilians of the sites cannot see the danger descend in they even tried; in their trivialities and in their happiness they are too blind to see. Harmony and utopia would not come to an end without the clock stopping.
Peace begins to fade in time, coming in full circle to see the network Cyberspace has become to blossom and wither from existence. In the meantime, the place reigned by corruption will be forced to remain unnoticed forever in the large technological means to an end. Nothing will be left after the darkness descends upon Cyberspace, when it happens eventually. Sooner or later, a higher power will overwhelm the kingdoms and none will remember except for the protectors. The protectors would have seen it coming, had they not been mystified by their own victory to notice. None will remember what there was before.
All seems calm and clear in the hidden empire, but the vastness of Cyberspace is a maze, where turbulence and chaos are always near. Even in a picaresque society, anything can be hidden and unimaginable silence will fall upon the once great realm of lights. After all, wasn't the kingdom already too corrupted to save?
