Take my Hand
Linna Celestea Black
My eyes wander to the scene as tears fill my eyes. The burning sensation she's dealing with has torn inside my chest…Katniss is dying, and I can't bear to watch. Just like me, my mother turns away to avoid watching this horrifying scene, and no matter what the case, Gale probably has this ache as well.
Reaching out for the screen, I begin sobbing loudly as she runs away from the flames, the frightening flames. The pain in her face is completely visible, and my throat begins drying up as I continue to sob. This was too frightening.
"K-Katniss!" I scream, closing my eyes shut as tears well down my cheeks. "Katniss!"
I never wanted this…I never wanted her to become part of the Games. Never in a million years did I want for me to go, but Katniss? It always hurt…watching them die under the hands of the Capitol…I had never realised how painful it would be to watch my sister be tortured so badly. And what's worse is…she's still alive. Still dying under their hands, still in pain, still fighting…
Still living…
I want her to live, I want her to come back to us and never feel such a pain again, but this isn't worth it. This pain is not worth it. Nothing on earth can stop this pain once again.
My arms wrap around my knees, crying loudly. Of course many of the towns' people understood…Katniss was the only thing I had left…she kept me alive, and she gave me warmth…and now, she was feeling the worst pain of all…
The sobs were louder, and I felt a warm hand touch my shoulder instinctively. I turn to look, and see Katniss's reassuring grey eyes stare at me with a warm smile on her lips. She kisses my forehead and whispers something in my ear.
"Prim…never forget who you are…don't cry, I'm right here, and I always will be. No matter what happens, I will come back…for mom, for Gale…for you. Now don't cry…be brave…be yourself Prim, and remember that I'm always here…by your side."
Her voice is soft, assuring, and melodic…it is Katniss there by my side, living through the battles for me…she saved my life, and I wouldn't forget that.
"Take my hand," I whisper back, turning to the screen as she placed her warm hand against mine, while I pulled myself close to her chest.
Quietly, I stare at the screen with a beating heart as I look up at my older sister, and then I nod, feeling my eyes dry up. I'm not going to cry…for Katniss, I wouldn't dare. I won't cry because someday, I'm going to be just like her…fair, strong and alive…
Smiling, I stare at the screen to feel the warmth of my sister still holding me, not letting go. When Katniss comes back – which she definitely will – I'll be strong enough to protect her and my mother…
That's a promise.
Author's Notes:
I'm currently working on another story that is in the future of Katniss's life…with her daughter. I highly doubt that it will get many reviews, so I wrote this instead, even though the other story is still in progress. I was trying to make sure that the bond between Katniss and Prim grew even stronger than before, and from what I see, I think I have. This is probably only one of the numerous stories that speak of their relationship, with the stories of Katniss and Rue coming soon.
Also, I have a community and forum for the Hunger Games themselves…anyone who would like to join either, simply state so in your review.
All reviews are accepted happily.
Sincerely,
Linna Celestea Black
