Asylum of the Dead

Ch.1 Truth of Lies

Drakan stared into the old, antique mirror, the events of the day ran through her mind, over and over, unrelentlessly. Even though she was the only one in the house, she heard a voice. The radio was on, but it wasn't from that. The T.V. was on, too, but it wasn't from that, either. It came from within.

"Why do you stay here? Don't you know she doesn't love you?" The voice asked. It was always with her. It told her harsh, destructive and evil things things with a soft, angelic voice, making her feel safe and secure, even when Drakan knew it wasn't.

"Yes, but--"

"Is there something you think she needs from you? Or think she'll forget Kags and Sango and stay with you?" The voice became even more sweeter as it became more malicious. "Don't you understand that it's not you they want...what they really want is your precious soul...your blood, your life..." The invisible person grabbed her hand and opened it up, putting the knife in her hand gingerly, almost lovingly, and continued, "So, why not give them what they want?" the blade was lifted to her neck. "This is what they want...isn't it?" the blade pressed into her neck. It didn't cut, but it was getting through her soft, vulnerable flesh.

"No...I...She--"

"Loves you! No one loves you!" the voice yelled, interrupting her frantic thoughts. Drakan's eyes widened with the realization that what the voice said was true...the truth of lies...HER lies.

"How could you ask for her love when you know that you have no right to even speak of her name?"

It was no use. Everything the voice said was right; so she never questioned its "suggestions" and let it take control. "That's a good girl. Cut that beautiful, velvet, pale skin. The skin that was to be mine. Write her name all over it, so everyone will know who did this to you." The thing behind the voice said to itself, "If I can not have you...no one else will."

A young cat girl, about Drakan's age, unlocked the door. "Dra-chan! I'm home!--DRAKAN!" Her happy eyes started to cry. She touched Drakan's face, then read the message on the wall...written in her own blood:

"I was waiting zutto, for me and you to stay in a dreamless heaven...Demo, I can't wait any longer. gomen nasai that I aisheteru zutto, Rin.

Drakan."

"Gomen nasai" was underlined twice. So, what the others said was true. Drakan really did love me. And now, nani am I supposed to do? I was going to tell her that I loved her, too...de-demo...she's dead. Rin sobbed. Drakan didn't know that that evening was going to be the best evening of her life...that never was.

----notes------

Um, I decided to change some of the words to japanese, so here they are: Gomen nasai: I'm sorry. Demo: but, or something close to it. Aisheteru: I love you. Its pretty deep, meaning "husband and wife love", or supposed to be, anyways. :sweatdrop: zutto: forever. -chan: honorific. usually pretains to children or indicates affection. nani: what
