Gil's POV

############################

Livin' on your own can be a lonely game
A face in the crowd - no one knows your name
It's a table for one and a broken heart to go

###############################

Eddie and I stopped being friends a while ago. It wasn't any particular situation that triggered the parting of ways; rather it was just a lapse of communication after a while.

But now, instead of being just an amicable parting of friends…I hate his guts.

############################

She's the kind of lover that you always dreamed
Would come to stay and never wanna leave
But that's all changed - she's dealt the final blow
Heaven knows what you were thinkin' of
Don't blame yourself you're just a victim of love

###############################

She tries to hide the bruises, but I can see them. Sometimes, I feel as if I can see into her soul.

I know she says she's in love with Eddie, but how can she be…with what he does to her?

He introduced her to cocaine…for which I will never forgive him. But the thing that makes me physically sick, is that he raises his hand to her.

###############################

It doesn't matter who was right or wrong
When the fire is over - when the magic's gone
You pick up the pieces and do the best you can

###################################

That night I saw her at the French Palace, she knew that I could see through the makeup to the bruises underneath. I went backstage after her performance and took her arm. The minute I touched her skin, her arm recoiled and she looked at me apologetically.

################################

It knocks you down but you try it again
You get a little older it's a cryin' shame
Sometimes things don't work out like you plan

#####################################

"Catherine," I murmured, my hand reaching for her. I had to see the damage. I had to know.

Reluctantly her eyes met mine and she let me touch her. I saw the visible print of his hand stand out in contrast to her milky white skin.

"Gil, please don't tell anyone," she pleaded with me. "It's the cocaine. He takes it and then he has a drink with his music buddies and it gets out of hand. I can handle it."

##############################

Who's gonna help when you've had enough
It ain't no secret you're a victim of love
Heaven knows what you were thinkin' of
Don't blame yourself you're just a victim of love

############################

I remember going home and racing for the toilet, emptying the contents of my stomach.

Every time I closed my eyes that night, all I saw was the imprint of Eddie's hand.

And that sad look in her eyes. The same one I saw on the very first night I met her.

#########################

One goodbye was really all it took
Now you thumb through the pages of your little black book
But somehow all the numbers look the same
You've been thinkin' how to get around it
But there ain't nothin' you can do about it
Nothin' ventured - nothin' gained

##########################

I know that in some part of her heart, she's in love with him. And I know that I love her with all my heart.

So I'll be here for her when she needs me.

Always.

######################

Ain't nothin' you can't rise above
Call it what you want but you're a victim of love
Who's gonna help you when you've had enough
Ain't no secret you're a victim of love
I don't wanna lose your love...
