It was the last dance of their middle school lives. All the eighth graders of New Town Junior High were dancing excitedly in the school gymnasium, having the time of their lives. Especially little Carlos Garcia, who was dancing like there was no tomorrow. As he danced around, smiling and laughing, a tall brunette made his way to approach him.
"Carlos, this dance is lame. Let's bail."
"No, James." Carlos whipped his body around to face his best friend. "This dance is definitely not lame. I'm having so much fun!"
"Well, I'm not." The pretty boy frowned. "Hey, I'm calling my mom. I'll see you tomorrow."
"No, James, don't go!" Carlos reached his hand out and grabbed James'. When James turned to face him, Carlos attacked him with his biggest, saddest puppy-dog eyes. "Stay." He smiled cutely at James, who quickly gave in.
"Okay, I'll stay. But don't expect me to dance."
"But Jamie! We're at a school dance. C'mon!"
"Carlos, I told you never to call me-" His sentence was cut short when Carlos grabbed his other hand, then jerked him forward. James stumbled a few steps, almost stepping on Carlos' toes. If not for the upbeat music, though, Carlos would be yowling in pain instead of moving his feet swiftly to the music.
"Carlos, I'm pretty sure people are staring."
"Shut up, Jamie." He guided James' hands with him, notioning when he should move backwards, forwards, or in a small circle. James, who started to dance along, laughed when their moves finally synchronized.
"Hey, I think I finally got it!"
"Looking at your feet, I think you got it!" Carlos smiled, unintentionally drawing their bodies closer. James smiled back as they continued dancing until the song stopped.
"Aww." Carlos frowned, looking up at James. His frown grew when he heard the new music slow down. James smiled, though, for he obviously had an idea.
"My iPod's in my pocket." Carlos smiled eagerly as James pulled it out of his pocket. He gave Carlos one earbud, and placed the other snug in his ear. "Let me just...aha!" Carlos smiled in surprise as the song he and James had just danced to played in his ears. James smiled and pulled Carlos closer, leading the first few steps. Carlos soon took lead, and the boys danced all around the slow moving couples. The pairs would roll their eyes at the two best friends, but frankly, it didn't matter to either boy.
"Jamie, I think people are staring, now." Carlos mocked.
"Shut up, Carlos."
