Disclaimer: All those who own Kenshin, say "Aye!" ::silence reverberates::

The sky was clear, the birds were chirping, and the sound of children laughing sounded throughout the crisp air. Bright colors of hot pink and green, splashes of yellow and blue and bits of indigo tainted a van with a large "Peace" sign, which ambled lazily down a country road.

Suddenly the van halted to a stop, when the driver noticed a band of children in the center of the road. A short man with red hair got out quickly, when the shouts of laughter turned into cries of pain.

"Mister mister!!" A girl with long brown hair and braids called out, upon seeing the stranger. She ran up to him, flower skirt billowing out in the breeze. "Help my little sister, please!!!"

"What's the matter, little one?" The man knelt down before a girl of perhaps seven, and waited for a reply.

"She's crying...." A small hand snatched a calloused one, and began to tug insistantly.

Instead of resisting the girl that pulled at his hand, the man wandered over to the ring of children. There in the center was an even younger girl, putting the power of her lungs to use.

"Now now.... let me take a look at that," the stranger said, his calm voice quiting her own loud sounds. He leaned forward, red hair brushing the girl's face. A small giggle was unleashed.

"ORO?!" he cried, as a fist full of his hair was yanked roughly downward. Arms and legs flew, and the man pushed his body off to the side, hoping to avoid crushing the child before him.

"Let's play!" Childish laughter resumed, as the man righted himself, eyes wide with surprise.

Just then, "twanging" noise broke through the barriers of laughter, and with speed that was surprising to all, the stranger dashed forward, in the direction of his van.

A boy with spikey brown hair was holding his precious instrument, a curious look on his face.

"It would be greatly appreciated if you didn't use it like that, that it would," informed the stranger politely, a hint of annoyance in his tone.

"Back off man - just wanted to know if it worked." The kid snorted, and tossed the guitar at the man. With a lunge the instrument was caught, but resulted in the man's face meeting with dirt. Again, the sound of laughter assaulted the man's ears.

"Ororororororo..."

"Play us a song, mister!!" He looked up with violet eyes to see the child who was crying earlier. She watched him with large brown eyes, and thumb in her mouth. Her eyes did not leave his as he patted of his bright pink shirt, and shook out his thick red hair, bound by a leather band at the base of his neck. His jeans close fitting on top, but left to flare out from the knee on down. Leather-bound flip-flops completed his outfit.

It was almost as bad as the tye-dyed shirts the college students insisted upon wearing. Trends, these days.

"What kind of song would you like?"

"A happy song!"

"Well, what about a song about the evils of war?"

"A happy song!"

"How about a song about love and peace?"

"A HAPPY song!"

At this the stranger paused, a frown marring his soft features.

"Flowers and rainbows and sunshine and rabbits and - "

"Little one, I don't know any songs like that..." Her eyes went wide, and tears began to from.

"... but I can make one up!" He smiled, and prayed that she wouldn't start to cry again.

"Make love, not war.... just like the rabbits always do.... "
