--------------- - Chapter 1. - ---------------

Tifa grabbed a moist cloth from under the bar and began polishing the bar top idly. She noticed a small ring of coffee tainted into the bar top which was left from the previous time Avalanche visited. Which reminded her.

'They're late.' She thought to herself, rubbing the stain with the cloth thoroughly. Gradually, the mark disappeared into the cloth, making it appear even grubbier than before. Tifa singed softly to herself, lonely and bored seeing as the bar was empty most of the time. She flung the dirty cloth into the sink, turning the tap to rinse it before ringing it and hanging it around the tap. Her delicate hands were still fairly damp, so she pinched a tea towel from beside the tap and wiped her hands onto it. While doing so, she examined her nails. They were broken from training downstairs. It was a pity really, Tifa had such beautiful hands.

Feeling the need to do something useful, she returned to cleaning the glasses and mugs after her last customers. There was a slight creak from the door. Tifa's attention quickly shot in the direction from where the creak sounded. The door suddenly stopped, not budging an inch. Slightly perplexed, Tifa walked around from behind the bar and stood beside the table, waiting for someone to enter.

It was then she saw the face at the door, watching her movements. The glass she was holding slipped from her hand in shock and shattered against the floor. Tifa put a hand over her mouth, still wide-eyed. Her instant reaction was to screech and scuttle against the wall, desperately trying to find a way to escape.

Cloud hung his head, then pressed the palm of his hand against his forehead. He spoke to the rest of the group who were following him back to the bar.

"What are we going to tell Tifa?"

"Simple." Barret answered. "We'll just tell her the mission failed. No biggie, we can always go back and try again." He sounded surprisingly calm, until he added, "In about a freakin' month time! That was our last bomb!!" Angrily, he swat Biggs over the head. Biggs knowing better than to argue with Barret, he rubbed his sore head and mumbled something under his breathe.

Finally they reached Tifa's 7th Heaven. Each of them took a deep breathe in, especially Cloud, and entered the bar. To their surprise, Tifa was nowhere to be seen. Cloud curiously crouched down to pick up the large shards of the glass as the others went to see if she was downstairs. They returned with no report of Tifa.

"Where else could she be?" Jesse enquired as if someone could give her a correct answer.

Cloud studied the shards even closer then before. Squinting, he noticed a spot of blood on the edge of a small shard. Barret was curiously peering over his shoulder, wandering what he'd find. Gradually straightening up, he held the shard in his hand.

"Woah, what's wrong with you Cloud? You look as if you've seen a ghost!" Barret teased Cloud, knocking him slightly in the shoulder. He was right; Cloud was growing paler by the second as he gazed down at the piece of glass. Wondering what was so important about the shard, he carefully plucked it from Cloud and observed it.

Instantly, he detected the bloodstain on the shard. Barret dropped it back down to the rest of the glass and glanced at Cloud.

"Where should we start looking?"
