Looking on the bright side
This takes place five years after my last fic Questions, Answers, and Confusion!!
Disclaimer: If I said I owned them, you wouldn't believe me. The only person I owe is Bella.
"Daddy, daddy, daddy. Look what I found!!"
Ten year old Bella was excited as she entered, like most days. I was cooking, but I turned off the oven and walked over to her.
"Watcha' got there, honey?" I asked her. She held out an old box.........................Jamie's box. "Where'd you get that, Bella?"
"In the cemetery." She said excitedly. "Look what's in it." She started emptying its contents. "Moon rocks, papers, and a star map. It even has 'Jamie' on it." She looked at me hopefully. "Do you think it was mommies?"
"I know that it's mommies." I replied to her as she stared at me quizzically.
"How?"
"Cause I gave it to her." She just smiled and hugged me.
Ever since her mother's death ten years ago, she's been very inquisitive about her mother, not really knowing anything about her. Now she's just like her. She amazes me, and not just sometimes...all the time. It's been five years since I've seen Jamie, and don't think that I'm crazy or something, I seen her...as an angel. Just as beautiful as ever. She told me that she would see me again, but I didn't understand if it was going to be in life or death. It's been exactly five years today, our anniversary, that I've seen her. I don't know if she's coming, but I miss her.
"Dad?" Bella asked as she walked outside. It was later that evening, and I was swinging on the swing. The same swing that Jamie received her pink sweater from me over ten years ago. I looked over to find her walking out in what used to be her mother's gown.
"Hey." I said to her. She looked over and gave me her mother's smile, then she jumped up and sat on my lap. She started playing with her hair as she said, "How long was mommy sick?"
I looked at her. "About three years before she died."
"Did she love me?"
"Of course!" I looked at her. "Why wouldn't she?"
"I...don't know." She got really quiet and stared ahead. It wasn't too long after that that I found her sleeping soundly on my lap. I picked her up and carried her to her room and laid her down.
"Night angel." I said before I turned off her light and went into my room. I looked around, and before I knew it, I was singing.
"There's a song that's inside of my soul" I sang.
"It's the one that I've tried to write over and over again" I heard another voice sing. I looked around and saw Jamie appear, just as she did five years ago today.
"I'm awake and in the infinite cold" I sang as she came closer.
"But You sing to me over and over and over again" Jamie sang as she came face-to-face with me.
"Long time no see, huh?" I asked her. She nodded.
"Yea. I've missed you, but I know that God and Bella are treating you right, so..." She laughed.
"Well, God has treated me right ever since I've had you, and you know it." I told her as she smiled shyly, as she was accustomed to do. "And Bella's an angel. She loves reading, you know. Especially the book, "To Kill a Mocking Bird." Jamie started to laugh. "Now where'd she learn that from?"
Jamie laughed. "Maybe you." She joked.
"Nah, I doubt it." I looked down. "So are you only allowed to see me every five years?"
"Yep, and only five minutes." She looked down. "I have to go now, but you can expect me back in 60 months." She told me as she gave me a peck on the cheek. "And thank you for doing such a great job with Bella. She's perfect." Jamie told me right before she disappeared.
I looked down. Only five more years until I can see my angel
again.
