Hm hm... I had this idea in my head for a few days, but it took a while to make it onto paper. Hope you like it!

Just Asleep

Abby paced back and forth nervously.

"Where are they?"

"Abby, I'm sure they'll be fine. Trust me."

Sarah's soothing voice did nothing to halt the blonde-haired teen's frantic pacing. She glanced at the shimmering anomaly that cast a flickering light around the hall. After what seemed like hours, Becker finally emerged from the anomaly. Abby let out a gust of air that she hadn't even realised she had been holding in.

"Oh, thank God. What took you so long? Where's Connor and Danny?"

Abby's heart skipped a beat in its steady rhythm as she registered Becker's blank expression. As if in answer to all her questions, Danny stepped into the hall, tugging behind him a stretcher, a white sheet draped over it, outlining the shape of a body. Abby and Sarah gasped simultaneously and stood, frozen in shock.

"Connor? Connor!?"

Abby's frenzied cries shattered the deathly quiet of the hall. She tugged back the sheet, uncovering Connor's pale form, dark hair a glaring contrast to the stark white bed. Abby turned on the nearest person.

"Danny, what's the matter with him? Why's he on a stretcher? What happened? Is he injured? Will someone please tell me what the matter is!?" She shook the body futilely.

"C'mon Connor, rise and shine sleepyhead"

Sarah took a step towards the girl, one trembling hand outstretched.

"Abby…"

She grew more urgent, shaking him harder.

"C'mon Connor, wake up! Why won't you wake up, c'mon!?"

"Abby" Danny placed a hand on her shoulder, but she shook him off impatiently.

"Connor, wake up! Wake up!"

"Abby!" Becker's commanding voice rang out. She turned around, pale face tearstreaked.

"Connor isn't just going to wake up"

"What do you mean he's not going to wake up? Of course he is! Oh! I know what this is! This some sick joke isn't it? Well, haha, guess you fooled me, so you can tell Connor to wake up now"

Becker turned her to face him, gripping her upper arms tightly.

"Abby. He's dead"

She broke away roughly, moving back to the side of the stretcher.

"No! No, he's not! He's just asleep. Yeah, just asleep"

Her expression changed in a split second, full of agony.

"No, no, no it can't be. Oh God, not Connor, please not Connor. You're lying, all of you! He's fine, he's always been fine"

She stroked his forehead tenderly, her expression much like the one she wore when she was taking care of Rex.

Sarah glanced at Danny. Abby's mood swings were alarming, to say the very least. Danny stepped forwards, mouth open, but was swiftly cut off by Becker.

"He's dead Abby. You can't wake up what's not living"

The words cut like a knife through her heart, shattering it into a million scattered pieces.

She swung round angrily, eyes flashing.

"No! Don't you lot get it?! He's not dead! He just needs sleep, is all. No he's not dead"

Sarah's eyes blurred with tears.

"Abby, please, stop it" she whispered. Abby turned at her voice. As if in a daze, she stumbled forwards. Becker lurched out, catching her and holding her. Sobs racked her body as the full force of reality hit her.

"He's dead. Oh God, he's really dead. There was so much I never told him. And now its too late"

As soon as I wrote the last line, I realised how badly it sounded like the ep where Cutter dies... Oh well ^^ Constructive criticism always welcomed!
