Forever Broken

She stood there, listening, waiting for him.

Her blonde hair swayed gently in the breeze while she hummed softly to herself. The piercing aqua eyes of her never leaving her petite hands. The girl shivered slightly as the light wind softly caressed her pale skin.

A shrill feminine voice that was her sister's called out into the dark garden where she was waiting, "Destiny, someone's here to talk you."

"Coming, Trinity." Destiny called back.

With a sigh, Destiny walked slowly inside the big house to hear a man talking to her father. His voice was deep and questioning. Trinity spoke quickly to him before leaving, her footsteps heavy.

"Ah, you must be Destiny. I'm Robert Hunter from the local newspaper. Would you be able to describe to me how your friend Logan Carter died?" the man asked in a questioning voice.

Destiny's eyes filled with tears at the memory of her high-spirited friend's pain-filled shriek when the car hit him head on. She had not seen it since she was looking the other way, but it was described to her.

Blue Volvo, boy flying across the parking lot, instant death.

She whispered the words to him, "H-he was hit… and died instantly from a broken neck."

Robert sighed, "Okay, can you describe how he looked to me please?"

"How should I know!" Destiny snapped, suddenly defensive, "I've never seen him before! I'm blind!" She heard a gasp from him, as if not expecting her to yell at him. Her sightless aqua eyes glared at him, "The only thing I know about him is he's a nice kid and he will come back! He'll come back to me, he promised!"

"Don't worry, Destiny," the cheerful voice of Logan declared, "if I ever leave I'll be back, I promise. Nothing in the world can stop me from returning to you."

Destiny smiled, "I know you will. And I promise I will come back if I ever leave too."

The promise rang in her head, as if threatening to smash her delicate heart into tiny pieces. She was hollow inside, forever broken. Racing outside she tried to calm herself. After a few minutes she was staring sightlessly at her petite hands again. Her blonde hair swayed gently in the breeze while she hummed softly to herself. Destiny shivered slightly as the light wind softly caressed her pale skin.

She stood there, listening, waiting for him.
