Chapter 1
The prologue,
I was running for my life from a horrible fate. I never even looked back,
I knew something was behind me. Something that wasn't human. It was
a vampire. Its fangs long and, drenched with crimson red,
blood. Its eye's were a dark red wild color.
I stopped dead in my tracks. No, it couldn't be, a dead end? I was stuck
I closed my eye's waiting for the fangs to sink in my skin. Nothing happened, I
I opened my eye's to see it had disappeared. Standing there was something, no
someone, a boy about 13 with mysterious black hair and a large black hat. I
couldn't see his face. He turned and looked at me and within a blink he was gone.
"How did he do that…?" I murmured baffled by his amazing speed.
I looked for a place to conceal myself in from the vampires and other
horrors waiting for me. The street seemed empty, and then I saw a light turn on in one
of the cottages. I stayed in the shadows and crept toward the house to look in the
window. I saw a boy my age maybe even older and what looked like his mom
I smelled her cooking and immediately remembered when I left I hadn't eaten.
The boy looked out the window and saw me.
"MOM, lock the doors the vampires are
back!" he yelled quickly locking the front door.
"Wait, don't lock it I'm not a vampire."
I said before he locked the window. He stared at me for a long time. "Ok, come in."
he said unsure.
"What brings you here and why were you outside alone you know it is
dangerous." His mother warned me.
"Well I will explain, I don't live in this world."
I said shaky. His mother looked puzzled.
"I live on Earth and I was sucked down
in a whirl pool and I fell out of the sky into your world.
" I said. "That is an interesting
story." Her son said.
"Well however you got here it doesn't matter as long as you're
safe from those bloodsucking creatures." She said.
His mother laid down a shaggy, old blanket from the closet onto the guest bed.
"You better stay here tonight, it's not safe outside until daytime." She said.
"Oh, I'm sorry I forgot to tell you my name, it is Artemis." I said.
"I am Kasandra, and this is my son Erebus." She said. I some of the little
food they had given me, mostly bread and dried foods to save for the next few
nights. The only beds were small ripped sheets on the floor.
All night I stared up at the ceiling waiting, believing all this was a dream I
had just fallen asleep by the tree. Every time I would open and shut my eye's but
all I could ever see was the old, wooden ceilings.
That night I couldn't sleep even a wink. I was still shocked from the chase
last night.
"So you're leaving today?" Erebus muffled under his breath.
"Yes." I answered quickly while fiddling with my fingers nervously.
"Haven't you always wanted to travel?" his mom asked unsure.
"Well, since you've always wanted to travel, you can go along with Artemis."
She said flatly. He looked shocked. I guess his mom had never let him go out far
from their home.
"Ok, you can come with me." I replied without thinking at all.
His mom handed me a bag full of foods and supplies. We started down a dusty
old road heading into the forest. I was to nervous to speak.
"Hey." He said breaking the ice.
"Are you really from another planet?" he asked.
"Yes" I answered.
As we talked about random things we got deeper in the forest. The fog grew deeper and thicker. Then I lost him. I felt a grab on my shoulder and screamed. Looked behind me
And then I saw a dark shadow looming over me.
