"Next time, you may die."
Her voice is soft and steady. Her tone is casual. The look in her eyes was almost apathetic. (Almost but not quite, because try as she might, Himawari just can't feign indifference).
"I won't die."
Next time, you will die. She wants to tell him this next. (But she doesn't, because try as she might, Himawari just can't stop hoping).
"How can you be so sure?" She tries to keep her voice flat. Himawari tries hard, she really does, but the words come out a bit sharper than intended.
"I don't have any proof but I won't die no matter what. Because I like Himawari-chan the most, I won't let you cry."
Idiot. Watanuki is such an idiot. She tells him this out loud. In turn, he grins at her in such a carefree manner that it hurts and he tells her jokingly that she's cruel.
Himawari is cruel.
Because she smiles for Watanuki (the one she knows that make his heart and his world stop) and tells him she wants cake. Strawberry Cake with the pink cream she likes so much.
But Watanuki is worse.
Because he makes it hard to feign indifference and he makes it harder to stop hoping.
