I'm branching out! This is a songfiction about Katniss's and Peeta's relationship after the 74th Hunger Games. Please R&R. The song is A Drop in the Ocean by Ron Pope.
Disclaimer: I don't own the song or The Hunger Games.
A drop in the ocean
A change in the weather
I was praying that you and me might end up together
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert
But I'm holding you closer than most 'cause you are my heaven
Peeta knew it was impossible for Katniss to really love him. During the games, she convinced him that it was real, and he fell for it. She was all he ever wanted.
I don't wanna waste the weekend
If you don't love me pretend
A few more hours then it's time to go
If Katniss really loved Peeta, then he would be all for it. He wouldn't waste a single day. But here they are, greeting each other like enemies. He's avoiding her because it's all too much.
As my train rolls down the east coast I wonder how you keep warm
It's too late to cry
Too broken to move on
Once she saw Darius as an Avox, she shut Peeta out. He was left wondering how she would manage without him. His arms, his lips, his comforting words.
And still I can't let you be
Most nights I hardly sleep
Don't take what you don't need from me
Even when Katniss shut Peeta out, he kept trying. Never ending. When he did give up, Katniss felt like all was lost. She felt… alone.
It's just a drop in the ocean
A change in the weather
I was praying that you and me might end up together
Its like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert
But I'm holding you closer than most 'cause you are my heaven
Misplaced trust and old friends
Never counting regrets
By the grace of God I do not rest at all
Mistake, after mistake. He couldn't take it. He would fall so hard for her, and she refused to catch him. He couldn't sleep, he could barely breathe.
New England as the leaves change
The last excuse that I'll claim
I was a boy who loved a women like a little girl
Peeta really was the star-crossed lover. He had been head over heels since he was five. He was the hopeless romantic.
And still I cant let you be
Most nights I hardly sleep
Don't take what you don't need from me
Katniss would only take what she needed from Peeta. She would take, take, take, and gave almost nothing in return.
It's just a drop in the ocean
A change in the weather
I was praying that you and me might end up together
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert
But I'm holding you closer than most 'cause you are my
Heaven doesn't seem far away anymore
No
No
Heaven doesn't seem far away
Heaven doesn't seem far away anymore
No
No
Heaven doesn't seem far away
Oh
Oh
When they were in the Quarter Quell, on the beach, Peeta actually thought that maybe, just maybe, Katniss did love him. That she did care. The maybe, it wasn't a game to either of them anymore.
A drop in the ocean
A change in the weather
I was praying that you and me might end up together
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert
But I'm holding you closer than most 'cause you are my heaven
You are my heaven
When Peeta was taken, he thought of Katniss. She was his heaven. He was hers. The whole country knew that.
President Snow knew that.
