They looked at each other in silence as chaos erupted around them. The taller man with annoyance and supposed hate in his eyes. The shorter with amused eyes, yet trying to look reproachful. Another disguise foiled, another day saved. Sportacus stood beside Robbie, looking like hero and villain to the crowd.
As they well should have, for at the moment that was what they were. But Robbie looked to the corner of his eye for just a moment. A short moment was all that was needed. That look instantly spoke what would take hours for lips. There was much more under the surface, and both knew it. They were more than just hero and villain.
They knew of Robbie's antics for attention and comfort. Sportacus constantly brushing it off and doing his hero-duty. What they didn't know was what went on when there were no kids around to play sports with, or to make stop playing. What happened in those rare, treasured,
moments?
In those moments there was nothing but love. Love so pure it broke down the fabric of their being. Robbie would lose himself in his supposed archenemy's gaze and Sportacus would hold him close, without fidgeting. Their silence spoke volumes.
The eyes, windows to the soul, said it all. Robbie was the villain to Sportacus' hero. Without one, the other would be useless. It was more than that, so much more. A forbidden love that would always stay in such a way.
In those eyes was the promise. They needed one another, craved one another. They would stand beside each other, through all moments in time and space. The hero and the villain. They would always be a team, of sorts, but what none would expect was the team that came out when they weren't watching.
The eyes that silently said where they would always be.
