She's Not You
"Hi everyone!" screamed Lauren as she approached her group of friends at the bar table.
"Hey Lauren, grab a seat!" said Joey, a little bit too dramatically.
"So, Joey is already drunk. What else did I miss?" she said as she sat on the chair Brian grabbed her.
"Nothing really, we are still waiting for Joe."
"Oh, is he late?"
"Yeah, he just went to pick Lucy up, so he will be here soon." Julia answered.
'Ugh, Lucy' Lauren thought. She hated Lucy. She never did nothing wrong to Lauren, but the fact that she was dating Joe for over three weeks now was enough. The truth was Lauren had always liked Joe, and after this one night a year ago, she knew Joe liked her too. Why weren't they together? Because at that time, Lauren had a boyfriend. Then when they broke up, it just wasn't the right time, with the shows and the tour. And now, Joe has Lucy, this really pretty blonde girl with green eyes. And she was tall.
"Stop making those faces Lauren! Lucy is a great girl, and she really seems to like Joe."
"I wasn't saying anything!"
"Yes, but you were thinking!"
Lauren couldn't finish arguing with Julia, because in that exact moment Joe walked in the bar with an arm over Lucy's shoulder.
"Hi guys!" he said as Lucy smiled to the group. Joe then proceeded to get a couple of chairs for the both of them.
"You're late dude." Brian said, only half joking.
"Sorry, but Lucy here took hours to get ready!" Joe responded, winking at Lucy.
"Well, I certainly didn't take hours, and I had to look perfect!" she answered, kissing him on the cheek.
"Excuse me." said Lauren as she got up from her seat and walked to the bar. She sat on a stool and ordered a beer. The bartender gave her her order and she quickly took a sip.
"What are you drinking?" Joe asked as he sat on the stool next to hers. "Beer? Lo, you don't even like beer."
"Leave me alone Joe, go back to Lucy."
"Lo, come on, tell me what's wrong."
"Nothing is wrong! Everything is perfect. Just like Lucy, right? And why is she even here, this was supposed to be a Starkid meeting about a new show, not a date for you and Lucy!" Lauren said, making Joe laugh.
"Ah, I knew you didn't like her…" he replied.
"She's so… Ugh, I don't even know!" she said. "And, 'certainly'? Did she really say that, I mean, who is she, the queen of England?"
Joe laughed at what Lauren said and ordered himself a beer.
"Well, I am going to break up with her anyway…"
"What, why? I thought she was the one… At least that's what you said to Meredith the other day…" Lauren was shocked. Even though she didn't like Lucy, she didn't want Joe to break up with someone because of her.
"How do you know that?"
"Meredith told me."
"Well, I didn't mean it. She isn't the one." Joe's face was now serious.
"Why isn't she?"
"Because she's not you." As he said these words, he leaned into kiss Lauren. It felt just like it had felt the other time they kissed: like it was meant to be.
"Lauren, I love you."
"I love you too." she answered. "But we should probably go back to the table."
"We should. And don't worry, I am going to break up with Lucy tonight. Things weren't right."
"Okay. I hope you do, because I won't be able to keep my hands of you." she smiled.
"Hm, I like the sound of that." he smiled back.
