First Impression
The first impression he had of her was a quiet woman, conservative in a blue jumpsuit. The logo for the Jeffersonian Institute was embroidered over the left breast pocket. The sun had caught the reddish tint to her hair, making it blaze. Her eyes were a bright icy blue. His first thought was that Dr. Temperance Brennan was beautiful.
When she saw the tell man exit the FBI issue SUV, she noted his typical black suit. He looked like the type that would never understand her from a scientific standpoint. Her first thoughts about his beyond her generalizations, remarked on his grace and good posture. They took in his well-toned and trim body and his aesthetically pleasing features. If his intelligence even remotely compared to his obvious physical qualities, he would be an exceptional mate. She compartmentalized her thoughts, refocusing on her work.
On their one-year anniversary of being partners, Booth took her out to dinner. The past year had brought them closer and had both proved and disproved their first impressions. They'd forged a strong friendship, despite their preconceptions. He found that he enjoyed her company more than he'd enjoyed anyone else's in a vey long time.
On their two-year anniversary, he took her to the same restaurant. Their friendship had grown by leaps and bounds. He'd come to rely on her for so much more than just work. She had become his best friend and best confidant. It scared him a little how she was always on his mind.
Somewhere during year three he figured out he loved her, cared about her more than he should. In year four he had so much to be scared of and thankful for. She fit into both categories. But he realized something that went so far beyond important. It was earth shattering. He'd had to loose everything to realize that what he felt was so much stronger than he originally thought. He didn't just love her; he was in love with her.
She'd told him that even the best fall down sometimes, but that's why he had her. She would always pick him up. But he'd fallen out of the back of his life where the stars refused to shine. She'd found him and guided him back.
Five years previous, their paths had a head on collision, directing them down a new road, one neither had anticipated. They'd come so far from their first impressions, but they still had so far to go.
I'm quiet you know
You make a first impression
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind
Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide.
