Luna struggled after the war. It wasn't because she'd been through a lot, or because she'd lost friends, since in all honesty she'd really gained the friendship of more people than she had lost. No, Luna struggled because however much she loved her father and wanted to trust him completely still she found herself questioning a lot of the things he had told her about. Even her belief in nargle's was in decline, all because she couldn't believe her father would sell Harry, Ron and Hermione to the death eaters simply to find out about how she was.
In the end it was Harry who helped her find some trust in her father again, on a day she was visiting the Burrow mostly to get away from her father.
Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Luna had decided to sit outside and watch the gnomes ignoring the hints Mrs Weasley kept giving about needing to degnome the garden again.
At some point Luna had lost track of conversation and only got back into it when she heard her name mentioned. "... yes my favourite painting wasn't one that moved and you all know it." Harry had laughed, "It was the one on Luna's ceiling. There was magic in it even if it didn't move. The magic of love and friendship."
"But I never finished that painting." Luna muttered. She'd barely been in her room to notice what was there since she came back from the war. "It still had the 'friends' chain to be painted on and a little magic I specially worked on put on it."
Harry just smiled, "Well I guess your dad must have finished it for you. He's a good man Luna, if a little too easily scared, but not everyone can be like you, not even your father."
Luna smiled, but Hermione and Harry could both tell that her heart wasn't in it. They had seen some of the light and trust in her eyes close when they told her what happened at her home and were scared by the affect it had had on her now.
"Luna, you do know that'd he'd give the world for you and love of your family leads you to do stupid things even if you doubt what is said, or should doubt it, don't you? Xenophilus wasn't weak, but you were his weakness, and we all have them. We can't all have family like Neville's grandmother, but we wouldn't want to, and you wouldn't want to." Hermione tried to explain, hoping Luna would listen.
Luna had to admit the truth in Hermione's words, but only nodded slightly, not trusting herself to believe again.
Ron seemed confused at finding himself somehow separate from everyone else's attention and claimed Hermione's attention for himself, while Harry just looked at Luna oddly for a moment.
"Luna, are you sure there isn't a wrackspurt floating around your head? I think I can see one, so can I borrow your spectrespecs?" He asked with perfect sincerity.
"Er Sure, here they are." Luna was confused as she handed them over.
Harry put them on and got up straight away, waving at the air around Luna's head. "How long have you let them stay there Luna? There were hundreds of them." Harry smiled as he sat down again, watching for a sign of the girl who had told him he was just as sane as she was.
Luna laughed, "I guess for too long. Come on I want to find a gnome or two."
