disclaimer: i do not own percy jackson sadly

Sam knew she doesn't have much luck. Good luck wasn't on her side and she definitely won't consider her life being led by horribly bad luck. But it seemed that maybe in a scale of 1 to 10, from good to bad, maybe she's at 9. Well just maybe.

"Are you listening to me?" Silena asked as she chewed a gum irritably while tapping her fingers with annoyance or maybe it's ADHD.

Silena Anastasia Jackson. It's not like she'll kill her. Silena wasn't just someone she'd like to be around of. Unlike her brother Jackson who was two years older, Silena wasn't actually that child that your parents would be proud of.

Jackson Charles Jackson was simply the golden child. Well everything about him is perfect well except his name, if Sam is being honest. Thank god, there's a Charles in between. He was smart and an average when it comes to sports. It was like he was born out of the sea or something. And then he had dyslexia but you will never hear him complain. He listens to the teacher attentively just to make up for it. He wasn't as handsome as some super model but the way he carries himself with confidence makes him an ideal man for every girl around. Though, Sam wouldn't really like something that eye catching next to her.

So that brings to his sister, Silena, who happens to be in the same US History class as her and as well as her research partner. If Jackson was the golden boy, Silena would be the black sheep. It wasn't just because of her appearance: black pixie hair, multiple ear piercings, motorcycle gloves, a black t-shirt that says death, fitted jeans, and some ankle boots that looked like they stepped on some broken glass shards. Well maybe slightly because of her appearance.

There were other things too. Everywhere she goes, there seems to be always trouble. Not to mention that she's got a short temper. One wrong move and she'll snap at you. There were even rumors that she's hanging out with other dangerous kids. Some say it's a gang of girls. Some even claimed that she's been sent to juvie multiple times even. Well that's what Sam had heard but maybe she shouldn't judge. Maybe it's just her ADHD making her different from the others.

"Hey I'm talking to you." Silena huffed and tapped her fingers louder this time.

"I'm sorry. Where do you want to make the assignment?" Sam asked trying to do her best not to melt at her spot while the other girl stare daggers at her.

"Can't we do it at your house?" Silena asked looking less annoyed than before.

"We can't…" Sam answered somewhat scared the other girl would snap. "Our house is kind of hectic right now. And I have siblings who would be very noisy."

She looked at her and thanked God that she wasn't pissed.

"Well, I got little brothers too. Twins to be exact but I could just shut them up." The way she said it sent shivers on the other girl's spine. "So it's my place then?"

"Sure." Not like she can suggest anything better.

"Great. I'll see after school." With that Silena packed her things and went straight out with an annoyed huff.

"What took you so long?" Silena asked a grumpy expression on her face. Her gray eyes looked at Sam as if calculating her every move.

"Mr. Keating won't let us go until everyone is done. Sorry for making you wait." She apologized and Silena simply stood and walked away while giving nodding her head and said "Let's go."

It was simply a silent walk, a silent awkward walk. And Sam was already dreading her luck.

Why does it have to be SIlena? She frowned as she asked herself and then across the street she saw something she didn't want to see.

She could feel her body tensed up and she wheeled herself to look away. It was better that way. She was simply hallucinating things. That was just it.

"Are you okay?" SIlena asked looking at her suspiciously.

Without noticing it, Sam had actually stopped walking though she immediately relaxed herself.

"I'm okay. Don't worry." She said looking at the place again and saw nothing. See just your imagination.

"Are you sure?" Silena asked looking unconvinced. "We can do this the next da—" Silena suddenly paused and cursed something that the other girl didn't understand. "Let's do this tomorrow." She said as she pushed ahead of Sam at a very fast pace but was surprised when Sam immediately pulled her arm.

"Don't go that way!" Sam begged, her eyes pleading for the other girl to listen to her. "Let's do it at my place. Siblings, be damned or something." She said trying to smile but she couldn't help but feel scared.

They were closing in. And she couldn't really explain what THEY are. Just simply monsters.

She'd been trying to ignore them all her life. They started showing up when she was six and everyone would tell her what a vivid imagination she has. You'd probably become a writer for fiction. Her mother would always say. But they got tired of hearing it when she was eight. Just shut up. They would always say.

So she did. She'd shut her eyes or look away when she found one. She'd try to pretend not to hear them when they make a sound. And she'd shut her mouth and be the normal human being that she was.

She was shivering now and she couldn't stop it. And to make matters worse, Silena is looking at her suspiciously.

"Can you see them?" Silena whispered so quietly that she almost didn't believe it until she saw the look on her gray eyes. At that very moment, she didn't feel alone anymore.

"Sam, can you see them?" Silena asked again above a whisper as she pulled her towards a place where there were less people around, their pace getting faster and faster until they were already running.

"Thank God!" Sam cried as she run and tried her best to keep up. Silena on the other hand looked at her with disbelief.

"Thank god? You're thanking god? Are you serious?" Silena asked distressed as she pulled Sam into an alley and said fuck at the dead end. "No wonder there are weird rumors about you." She said as she tried to pull her to another alley.

"There are weird rumors about me?" Sam asked as they run and sort of out of breath.

"Well, yeah like you were some voodoo kid or something and something about a third eye." She said and pulled Sam down to a small corner as she navigates their surroundings. "I actually thought seriously? I mean I'm bad luck already but to be partnered with a weird girl who does voodoo just isn't that great. I actually ask why do I get to be stuck with all this crazy while Jack-jack can easily get away with it? I mean that just plain unfair." Silena huffed as she finally calmed down and leaned on the wall.

"Jack-jack?" Sam asked a small smile plastered on her face.

"Yes, Jack-jack. And he's not that perfect. He believed Santa was real until he was ten when he saw Dad putting candies on the socks. I mean seriously? When I was five I already knew that was all bullshit the adults made so that kids could be coaxed to sleep earlier." Silena sighed and took some gum out of her pocket. "Want some?" She offered with a small smirk.

"No thanks." Sam answered but still couldn't help but smile and feel relief.

"What?" Silena asked chewing her gum and looking almost everywhere like she was suspicious of everything.

"I never met anyone who can see them too. For years I thought I was going crazy so ignored them all. But right now, I feel so happy that it wasn't just me. I'm not alone." She said with a huge smile. "I'm glad I met you."

"Whoa there." She said as she helped her up. "So, who's not at home? Dad or Mom?" She asked but it only earned her a confused face.

"They're both at home?" Sam answered confused to why does she has to answer that. "Or you mean right now? Mom stays at home and Dad's at his office."

"They're both your real parents? Then a legacy then."

At that moment, Sam wasn't really sure what she didn't understand anymore. It was like a math question that she doesn't know how to solve or like there was a trick to it and she doesn't know.

"Huh?" Legac—" She froze in place. Well, who wouldn't? There was a freaking one eyed monster staring straight at her.

"Get away you one eyed freak!" Silena yelled as she pulled Sam closer to her and draw a dagger under her shirt.

"You don't scare me." The monster bellowed. Then immediately lunge to grab Silena. "Snacks for me!"

"No you don't!" She dodged while pulling the other girl with her and gave a silent prayer. "Please guide me Athena."

"Athena?" Sam asked but she wasn't expecting an answer. Then her jaw went wide when she saw Silena lunge at the monster with determination.

First she gave the monster a punch straight to its nose. The monster grumbled loudly and tried to swat her away but Silena was fast. She quickly locked her arms around the monster's neck and stabbed its eye over and over again only to stop when the monster successfully grabbed her feet and threw her away.

She landed on the wall hard and yelled a curse that Sam couldn't understand. Was it another language? She asked herself but quickly dismissed it. It wasn't really that important now. She has to make sure Silena was alright.

"Are you okay? Are your bones okay?" She asked frantic and afraid to touch her.

"Shit" was the only response she gets and Silena stood again and spit some blood from when she accidentally bit her lip when she hit the wall.

"Ohhhh! You are so going down baldie!" And with that she charged again.

The monster being blind frantically punch in every corner in which she simply dodges like it was nothing. It was like she's done this before and maybe she really did. Sam was pretty convinced.

Then as fast as Silena can she stabbed and drove the dagger upwards at the back of the monster's head. And with a huff the monster turned to dust.

"What the heck just happened?" Sam asked overjoyed and in awe. She ran towards Silena and gave her a hug who in return winced.

"Well, I just killed a Cyclops no biggie." She answered with a knowing smirk on her face but she immediately cursed herself.

"If it isn't the second spawn of Percy Jackson. I was wondering what the ruckus was about and hoped it would be the blond boy. Turns out, its just you." The weird lady with a donkey leg said, her fangs barring at her.

"Empousa. Talk about ugly donkey legged vampires." Silena spoke in disgust. "And again like I'm telling all girls who want him, he is not a catch. You'd just be disappointed. I guarantee you."

"What the heck is going on?" Well it was about time Sam asked that question.

"That over there is a dangerous ugly grandma. Do not try to approach her. She tried to kill my father a couple of times." Sam explained with a tired tone. Not tired exhausted but tired annoyed.

"YOU INSOLENT FOOL!" She screeched and her hair went into flames and attacked Silena with her claws. But she turned right and dodged anyway and gave the empousa an upper cut with her left arm.

The empousa fell on the ground and Silena was already ready to stab down on her.

"Wait!" The empousa screamed but Silena didn't have time for that and struck down immediately turning it to dust.

"Geez, she just called me an insolent fool. Can you believe that?" She said looking at Sam and tucking away her dagger. "What is she a Disney villain? So are you okay?" She asked as she looked at Sam carefully.

"I'm just surprised and scared that's all. You can really fight." Sam commented and Silena smiled.

"Yeah. Of course I can. My Aunt Thalia trained me after all." She said smugly. "So where was I?"

"What do you mean?" Sam asked forgetting about their previous conversation.

"A legacy right. You see my Mom and Dad are children of a god and a human. And I'm their child so I'm a legacy." She said like a matter of fact and Sam had to think about what she meant about children of god and human.

"You mean like Jesus?" Sam asked suddenly cautious that maybe Silena did hit her head a little hard on the wall.

"No! Not like Jesus. He's not even related to this. Or maybe he is. I don't know. I'm not sure." Silena looked confused for a second and immediately let it go. "Anyway, you're probably related to some god."

"Like a religion?" Sam asked and she pretty much knew that that wasn't the answer.

"No. In my case, my mother Annabeth is the daughter of Athena. And my father the infamous Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon. He controls water too." She explained slowly for Sam to digest.

"You get powers?" Sam asked suddenly interested.

"Well it depends. For me I just inherited my most of my mother's traits. You know being wise and having common sense which my brother lacks."

"You don't really like your brother." Sam voiced and Silena gave a huff.

"Even Athena found it hard to accept him."
