For only a moment

Shadow stood, watching as Ark plummeted through space, getting closer and closer to hitting earth. What did it matter to him that that faker and his friends were fighting? Maria was his friend. This was her wish. To have been rightfully avenged, and to live on in his memory. He treasured the memories he had of her. He was glad to have her wish granted. It did not matter who was the cost of it.

He was alone in the room, and it brought back memories of the past, memories of Maria. She was so innocent, so delicate in his memory. She was his best friend. As he thought this, the doors automatically opened, and there stood one of the faker's friends, Amy Rose. His red eyes showed slight surprise at her appearance, and also irritation that she interrupted his sweet reverie.

"Shadow! We need you to help us!!" she exclaimed as she rushed to his side.

He looked into her emerald eyes, her words were sincere. It somehow reminded him of Maria, but she shook the thought away. Maria was much more than some girl.

He turned back to the window.

"I refuse. They're all doomed no matter what happens. There is no way to save them."

"Don't say that Shadow!!...Look, I know people can be horrible. Some people…only think of themselves. And some people…are good! You may destroy all the bad people doing this, but what of those who are innocent? They don't deserve to die Shadow!! So many people would loose their lives, even you may loose your life! Please Shadow…I beg of you. Help us! Give them all a chance!!" She cried.

The words rang in Shadow's memory. His red eyes widened as he continued to stare down at earth as it drew nearer and nearer, inch by inch.

"Shadow, I beg of you…give them all a chance. This is my only wish……For all the people on that star…give them…at least one chance….and our visualizations…our dreams…our wish…will be realized. This is the reason…you exist."

Maria's soft voice echoed through his mind. Her words that day. He true wish. How could he have mistaken? Why would she give mercy to those who so brutally murdered her? He looked to Amy, who appeared worried, her green eyes gleamed with the thought.

"Shadow, are you alright?" she asked slowly.

He nodded.

"Amy…I know now. Her true wish. She wants to save those who destroyed her. Though I don't quite understand it…it seems just like her. I will promise you too. I will save us." Shadow said as he began to dash out of the room.

Before he could even leave the room, he stopped, walking over to the confused pink hedgehog. He stooped directly in front of her, and his hands went to her soft cheeks.

"Thank you, Amy." He said as he bent down.

And before Rose knew it, he had captured her lips, and her first kiss as well. Her green eyes shot all the way open, widened in the utter shock at who was kissing her. Before, she would have protested, she had always wanted Sonic to be her first kiss. She imagined it to be under much more romantic circumstances. But this was fine. She found herself unable to resist. As she grew even more lost in her thoughts, Shadow released her, and ran out the door.

He left her standing there, still frozen in place, and her face covered in her deep red blush. She slid down onto the floor.

"Maybe he loves me…." she thought to herself
