A/N: I got inspiration of this story from DeanSamWinchester's fanfic of the Life and Times of Naruto Cross.
Kushina Uzumaki-Namikaze knew for a fact that it wouldn't be a long before she kicked the bucket. It wouldn't be long before she closed her eyes for the last time and take her final breath or whatever fancy words that people used to describe death. The point wasn't that she was dying, but the fact was that she was going to leave her baby girl, her own flesh and blood alone in this cruel world.
The person who started the saying that life wasn't fair knew the truth. Not once in her twenty-four years, did she think that this would happen. Not once did she ever entertain the idea that her baby girl would be left alone. Another shinobi world war would be better than this catastrophe. It had been naïve of her think that as long as she contained the Kyuubi that none of her children would have her burden. She believed they would never ever have the feeling that they were different. She always thought that they would have it easy in making friends and that they would never be alone.
All those prayers that she made were now a waste because this beautiful, sweet little girl that she spent so many hours and hours delivering, talking about with Minato and dreaming of having, would now be left alone. Just like her, her daughter was a jinchuuriki. She was going to be alone. There was no chance for these villagers to look past the demon and her cute little whisker marks, not when her husband did the most idiotic thing he could do.
If only there was a way to…
The red-haired woman blinked her eyes as a memory of her childhood flooded into her mind. Looking up at the dark night sky and then to her bleeding stomach, she recalled of the last lesson that her grandfather had taught her. It was only to be used for emergencies, her grandfather would tell her. She looked down at her smiling daughter and decided that this was considered emergency. This was the only way she could give her daughter, the life that she deserved. She was going to make sure that her daughter knew just how wonderful life was. She was going to give her the childhood that neither she nor Minato had.
Taking a deep breath, Kushina looked at her husband's corpse and smiled. If he knew of her plans for their baby girl then he would object with her plans. It would destroy the politics of their village but the village could go screw itself. Naruto would always come first. He would tell her that she was taking a big risk when it came to their daughter's happiness. He would tell her that she had no clue if that life would be better for her. She probably had no clue, but there was a small chance and that chance was enough for her.
Naruto was never going to live that nightmare and there was no way that she would allow Naruto to become insane like the other jinchuurikis.
There had been so many reason why she objected to the idea of making Naruto a jinchuuriki. Her husband was a genius but he was naïve. He thought that the villagers would see their baby girl would still be happy if she was raised by the villagers. Happiness wasn't an emotion that a jinchuuriki would experience, not when the villagers know the truth. They can't ever look past those marks and see a cute, little, innocent girl. They would see a monster. They would make sure that her kid would never be happy. They wouldn't think she was a little girl.
Her daughter must never have this cursed life.
"Neither your father or I wanted you to become jinchuuriki," she whispered, running her hand through her daughter's hair. "We had very high hopes of you. I had so many plans for you. I dreamt of you becoming a better kunoichi than me. I always thought I would see you become genin and if I was lucky then I would see you get married. I wanted to give you advice when it came to being a great kunoichi. I thought of a million ways of teasing you when you had your first boyfriend and how your Daddy would be so overprotective over you. Neither your daddy nor I would have this chance but I will make sure that you will be loved. I will make sure you have a lot of joy in your life. If I failed in making the seal then I want you to know that I didn't want to give you a burden."
She gritted her teeth when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. There was no time for her to continue talking to her daughter. She dripped her finger to her bleeding stomach and allowed it to soak her fingers. First, she began to write her daughter's name in her headband before channelling her chakra into her blood-soaked fingers. It was from there that she began to draw the last seal that her grandfather taught her.
It was a seal that had been in the clan from the beginning of their clan's creation. In the history of her clan, it had been only used once and no one knew what the effects were. They just knew that the person couldn't be found anywhere. She didn't know what the effects could be, but hopefully it wasn't anything too dangerous.
Well the effects wouldn't be as bad as her future in this world.
There was a small chance that she could be loved unconditionally.
So with her final breath, Kushina yelled out the seal jutsu and pressed her hand on the final seal and watched with tears streaming down her cheeks as her crying baby girl slowly faded into thin air, leaving no evidence that baby had been here or the seal she had made.
Two hours later when Kushina's body was recovered, everyone would say she died with a smile on her face as if to say her death had been peaceful and that she was happy. No one would ever figure out the sacrifice she had made or these seals she had used. No, only a select few would even know that on the day that the Kyuubi attacked, was also the day Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze was born.
To everyone in the world, Minato and Kushina had died without a child.
Kaien Cross knew the moment that the normally bright blue sky had darken that something strange was going to happen. It became even odder when he noticed a strange hole appearing out of the sky and something slowly falling down. Scratching his head, he watched as the object landed safely on the ground. He felt his lips dry when he noticed a small leg appearing out of the blanket.
Without a second thought, he put on his jacket and rushed out of the door. How the hell could a baby come out of nowhere? He had seen a lot of things in his life but not once had he ever seen this happen. How did this happen? He couldn't help but ask himself and why was it only one baby? Where were the child's parents? There was no way that a child could come here by herself.
He rubbed his hands together and stride to the pile of leaves, where the baby had landed. How could a child come here? That was the one thing that bothered him. Not once in his long life had he seen a baby appearing out of a hole in the sky. Was this baby another species? Or was it something else? He couldn't help but ask himself as he knelt to the ground and picked up the baby.
He brushed the leaves away from the baby's face and felt his heart melted when the baby slowly opened her eyes and revealed her bright blue eyes. There was something out of this world when it came to her eyes because Kaien was sure that he had never seen a person with such blue eyes before. He felt his lips twitched when the baby giggled and clapped her hands together.
He pushed the blanket a little bit lower and found that the girl already had strands of blond hair. Just like her eyes, the girl's hair also stood out. He had seen many blond in his life but Kaien had never seen a hair so blond that it reminded him of the shining sun. It was perhaps for that reason and maybe even the fact that she couldn't stop smiling that he thought that this was the cutest baby that he had ever seen.
His heart broke when the baby began to cry.
"Calm down little one," Kaien hummed, rocking back and forth. "Everything is going to be okay. I will try to find where your parents are."
The baby began to cry even louder at the mention of her parents, making him gulp. What does he do? What does he do? He had never dealt with a crying baby before. What do people do in these situations? Why was this happening to him? He shook his head and stared at the crying baby before deciding to hum a small tune that his mother used to sing to him. Rocking back and forth, Kaien stared at the baby, whose cries were starting to die down.
The baby stared at him with wide eyes and Kaien smiled in relief, before glancing to find clues of how the girl came to this world. The only thing that seemed to stand out about the scenery around them was a strange headband. Cradling the baby in one hand, he picked up the fallen headband and inspected it. A huge lump started to form in his throat when he noticed that the headband was strained with blood.
A bloodstain in the headband meant only two things: the child had come from somewhere dangerous and that her parents were gone. From the liquid surrounding the girl's body, he came to conclusion that the child had only been alive for a few hours. He felt his eyes stringing as it set on him that the girl had been orphan on the same day of her birth. He flipped the headband to the back, where a strange insignia seemed to be craved into the headband and frowned when he noticed small characters on the headband.
"Her name is Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze."
There were more words but Kaien couldn't read them properly. It wasn't because the handwriting was terrible but because there were characters that he had never read before. He had lived over four-hundred years but not once he had seen characters like these. It seemed like her parents had lived long enough to name their daughter, long enough to try and write a message for someone to read.
The world was far too cruel to allow such a beautiful child to become an orphan. He could send her to the orphanage because he wasn't the best suited when it came to children, yet he couldn't do it. He couldn't abandon her to a system where there might be a chance that no one would take her in. He was the one who found her and he had to be the one to tell her the truth. Yet, he didn't know how he could explain to her about what happened to her parents…not when he had no idea on how they were murdered.
He would worry about it later because right now, he needed to make sure that Naruto was okay.
"Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze? Your parents didn't give you the most feminine name," Kaien stated, smiling down at the wide-eyed girl. "But something tells me that Naruto suits you more than any name I can think of. You're going to be my little maelstrom, aren't you? My little troublemaker."
Naruto giggled and Kaien couldn't stop himself from squealing at how adorable his new daughter was. He tickled the girl's stomach and felt his heart lightened when the girl giggled even more. If it wasn't for the fact that it was cold, he would blow kisses to her stomach but he would do that later. Nodding his head, he cradled the baby closer to his heart and smiled softly as the baby closed her eyes.
"Your parents might be gone Naru-chan but you have me," Kaien whispered. "I'm going to take real good care of you Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze or should I call you, Naruto Cross? Your last name is going to be a mouthful for you to pronounce. From today onwards, you are going to be Naruto Cross."
It was with those words that Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze became no more and Naruto Cross was soon legally adopted into Kaien's care.
For seventeen years, Naruto would come to have so many embarrassing moments with her father and would get siblings, who she loved with all her heart. She would have the life that her mother always wanted for her but Naruto Cross would have her whole world change at the age of seventeen.
