"Oh my kits… My beautiful kits… What shall we call them?" asked a voice.
"The one that looks like you should be called… Violetkit," said the other voice.
The first cat purred. "My daughter, Violetkit. And the other?"
"Hm… Frostkit. Violetkit and Frostkit… Our daughters." Frostkit heard the moss around her rustle. Her mother and father had chosen nice names. She wondered what she and Violetkit looked like. She wondered what her mother and father looked like, too, for that matter. Probably beautiful.
Am I beautiful? she had to wonder. She realized how hungry she was and blindly crawled her mother for milk. Her eyes where itchy. She pawed at them, and soon opened them. Everything was so bright! She looked around. It was big, too. She backed into her mother's belly. It was so warm. She looked up and saw her mother. She had long luxurious black hair. Frostkit looked down and saw that she had a white, creamy pelt.
"Creamstar? Frostkit's opened her eyes," she heard her mother whisper.
"She stands out well against your pelt, Shadefur." Frostkit twisted her head around and looked at her father. Creamstar? That meant he was leader. Frostkit felt a little proud to be daughter of the leader. She studied him. He looked a lot like her. His tail was much longer, and he had short fur, but those were the only differences. Violetkit was a mirror image of her mother. "Oh, they will be the strongest warriors that RiverClan has ever seen. I can't wait to teach them to swim," he said happily.
Violetkit looked up, her eyes open as well. "We'll have to fight?" she squeaked.
A purr rumbled deep in Creamstar's throat. "Yes, but you'd be able to beat any of the cowards that dare face RiverClan!" Violetkit still looked unsure of herself. Frostkit bounced up.
"I'm not afraid of anything!" she boasted, puffing out her little chest. "I can take on all the other clans at once! Grr!" She then tackled Violetkit. "Pretend you're ShadowClan! I have to stop you from invading the nursery and getting Shadefur and Creamstar. Bring it on!" She kept her tiny claws sheathed and ran straight at Violetkit.
Violetkit wailed and ran to Shadefur.
"Frostkit! Be nice, you're poor sister is hungry! You ought to be ashamed of yourself," her mother chided.
"But I was only having a little fun!"
"That's no excuse. Go play somewhere."
Frostkit gasped. "Somewhere outside?"
Shadefur sighed and glanced at Creamstar. "Would you watch her and make sure she doesn't go far?" Creamstar nodded and chuckled.
"Come this way little one."
