On rubbery legs Wilson stumbled to his car. He climbed in, locked the door, and stared straight ahead but saw nothing except the image of House plummeting from a balcony several stories above the ground. He hadn't seen the pool through the crowd of people watching House with him. In that moment he'd seen his life pass before his eyes because House was his life. It was a fact he'd tried long and hard to deny, without success.

Explosively he vented his emotions, yelling on top of his lungs, pounding on the steering wheel repeatedly with all his strength. He knew he must have appeared to be insane; in fact, he believed he was. Loving House was the very definition of insanity. For Wilson it was a chronic, slowly degenerative, potentially lethal disease for which there was no cure. He wanted to run away but it would be an act of futility; he'd be back. House wasn't the only one with an addiction.

Starting his car, Wilson headed for home.
