Derek leaned back into the couch and watched the commercials on ESPN while waiting for the second period to start. Taking a swig of his beer, he turned to look at the girl curled up next to him, snuggled under a blanket. Sammie was nearly asleep, her eyes barely slit open to watch the TV screen.

"Do you want me to take you home?" Sammie shook her head and Derek wrapped an arm around her shoulders. He kissed the top of her head the way he always did and turned the volume down as a commercial started screaming at them.

"James has his latest girlfriend over," Sammie mumbled and closed her eyes. "He keeps being ridiculous and saying these stupid pickup lines he thinks are romantic. I can't stand it anymore. I'll loose my dinner."

"Oh yeah?" Derek laughed. "What's he saying?"

"If I could rearrange the alphabet, I'd put U and I together," Sammie mimicked her brother's voice and then pretended to gag. "Do you have a map? I keep getting lost in your eyes."

"Has he used the falling from heaven one?"

"Only every other time he opened his mouth. When he said 'Your legs must be tired. You've been running through my mind all day,' I knew I had to leave."

"I think my favourite might be 'Someone stole the stars from the sky and put them in your eyes.'"

"Awww, that one's kind of cute."

"Not as cute as you."

Sammie cuddled closer and Derek smiled.

A/N:

This is a flash-fiction one-shot (flash-fiction is 250 words or less; I started counted after the date) for my friend who won it by naming the right CM episode with the picture I'd posted over on my Facebook. She wanted a conversation between Sammie and Derek about cheesy pick-up lines. I hope you liked it, hun!

This is set back in 2000, during my multi-chapter story Cracked Concrete when Derek was a cop in Chicago. If you go read it, it would be taken from between chapters 11 and 12.

Anyways, I'm about to go hiking with some friends (YAY SPRING BREAK!) so I've gotta go! Thanks for reading, I hoped you liked it, and, please, tell me what you think - good or bad! BAI!

Love, Thalia
