A/N: This is something that came to me as I missed my Soldier. He isn't a Marine, but in the Army. This is pre-series, Shannon's thoughts about the birth of Kelly while Gibbs is away. Hope you enjoy it!

She sits in her bed propped up by what he calls "way too many damn pillows." She is wearing pj pants, a tank top, and a pregnant belly big enough to use as a dining room table.

The Marines. Why did he have to join the Marines? Was my father right? Am I doomed to have this baby alone while he is off playing warrior in some God forsaken place?

She knows her thoughts are stupid. She's been through the programs and this isn't her first deployment. Still, that doesn't make it any easier. She is alone. Half the world away from her family and she knows damn good and well they won't come to her aide when the time is right.

She only has two friends here. (If that's what you can call someone you have only known for a matter of months.) She knows they will be there when they are needed. That's what good Marine wives do. They stand next to each other. She knows she won't be alone, but they aren't who she wants there when the time comes.

As she thinks she feels a kick from deep inside. She can't help but smile. She knows this little girl will be the apple of his eye, but she can't help but wonder how much of her life he will miss. She knows that he will be mad that he will miss stuff and he will hate it but she also knows that duty calls.

She hates that this makes her feel like a bad Marine wife and she knows that if she shares this the other wives will looked shocked, but inside they will agree.

Suddenly, the kicks are more intense and she knows the baby is coming! She reaches for the phone and calls her emergency number to get in contact with her husband.

"I need to speak with Gunnery Sergeant Leroy Jethro Gibbs. I am his wife and I am in labor. I will be leaving shortly for Bethesda Navel Hospital. Yes, of course. Thank you." She knows the Red Cross will get the message to him and he will either be on his way or will be calling her cell phone shortly. Hopefully, it won't be too late.
