It was a lovely spring day in London, Jack was riding his bike on Cherry Tree Lane when he stopped at the Banks house. Actually, he was here to ask his love Jane a very important question, he was going to propose to her in the park. He hoped she would say yes but yet a small part of him worried about her answer. After all, they had only been together for 2 months, was it too soon? Was he rushing into things? He wouldn't know unless he tried. Jack got off his bike and knocked on the door. Ellen answred it. "Ah, hello Jack." Ellen greeted.
"Hello Ellen. How are you?" Jack asked. "Never been better, dear, still getting over a little winter chill but otherwise I'm fine." Ellen replied. "Is Jane here?" Jack asked. "Of course. She just came to visit the children while Michael was off doing some papework in his room. Jane, Jack is here." Ellen called from inside the house. In a few moments, Jane came to the door with Annabelle and Georgie beside her. "Jack!" Annabelle said, happily.
Jack picked up Annabelle. "How's my favorite girl doing today?" Jack asked. "Fine." Annabelle replied, smiling.
Jack put Annabelle down and then looked at Jane. He quickly took off his cap and then showed Jane a bouquet of flowers. "For you. They're from your favorite stand in the market." Jack said.
"Oh, thank you." Jane said, taking the bouquet and inhaling the scent.
"Shall we? I was figuring we could take a nice stroll around the park." Jack suggested. "I'd love to." Jane said, taking Jack's hand. Jack helped Jane onto his bike and then he pedaled off to the park. He came to a stop near the gazebo where Jane saw a picnic blanket laid out along with a picnic basket. "I hope you don't mind that I also prepared us a nice picnic for two as well." Jack said, helping Jane off the bike.
"Jack, no, I love this." Jane said, in awe at the romantic sight. "Come on." Jack said, leading Jane over to the blanket. The two had their picnic all the while watching children play or people walk their dogs, pretty soon, they found themselves alone. It was starting to get dark but Jane and Jack didn't care as they spent the rest of the day talking and laughing. "Jack, this has been such fun but why a picnic in the park? Usually you only take me to dances or a walk by the London bridge or something simple like that. Why the sudden change?"
"Cause I wanted to ask you something important." "What is it?" Jane asked, curiously.
"Jane, would you-"
"Oh, Jack, look." Jane said, pointing up to the sky.
The two looked up and saw a shooting star. "Now we have to make a wish."
"All right."
The two closed their eyes then opened them a few seconds later.
"What did you wish for?" Jack asked.
"Can't tell you, that's the whole point of a wish. But while we're on the subject, what did you wish for?"
"What I wished for is something I can only give to you." "What do you mean?"
Jack got down on one knee, grabbed Jane's hand then took out a small diamond ring. Jane gasped in surprise. "Is that-?"
"Jane Banks, will you make me the happiest man alive and be my wife?" Jack asked.
"Yes. Of course I will, yes." Jane said, tearfully. Jane helped Jack up and kissed him passionately as another star shot by. When they let go, their foreheads touched one another's. "Do you really want to know what I wished for?" Jane whispered.
"What?"
"This." Jane replied, kissing Jack again.
