Love from Afar by LoriJoan ;)
Samantha Carter couldn't wait to analyse the data that had just been received from the Pegasus galaxy. She had been quite shocked when out of the blue, they received the data burst from the site, but immensely relieved at the same time. It was good to know they were still alive and well, assumably. General O'neill had given her the go ahead to get to work on decoding the burst, so she had been in her lab non-stop.
After a few hours of trying traditional decryption methods, Sam finally realised why the information was so compressed and advanced. 'McKay must've been the leader on this idea,' Sam thought. She soon realised that it made sense. He had worked previously on data encryption with the Air Force and was the lead scientist on the Atlantian team. 'Nice to see he's started to get as crazy as I've been the past 7 years!' Sam thought amusingly.
Within the next day, Sam had decrypted all of the information that was in the file. She had decided that the best way to deal with the immense amount of junk McKay had somehow managed to cram in would be to sift through and sort it herself rather than have some lackey airman help her out with it. Not that she minded doing it herself. In fact, she felt very pleased that she would get the first look at what was going on there.
She got through the shocking information first. The information that said the expedition team may have met an enemy even worse than the Goa'uld. It was hard to imagine anything being worse than the Goa'uld...besides the replicators, of course. She decided that the most prudent thing would be to get all of that information off to the General straight away. The personal videos attached to the end of the reports could be dealt with by him later.
However, she was going to deal with them now and try her hand at helping to figure out what to do with them and who to send them to. It was obvious after watching the first few that these were going to have to be audio only. Sam felt bad about the fact that the family members of these people wouldn't be able to see what could be last glimpses of their relatives alive, but security breaches just couldn't be risked. As it was, even sending audios out was going pretty far. But these people had failed to cover up anything that made it look like they might be anywhere but Earth. Sam couldn't blame them, the whole impending doom thing going on, but none-the-less, it had to be remedied.
Finally, at what seemed like the end of the videos, Sam got through McKay's relentless droning. It was obvious he was scared. She felt bad for the guy. Despite how she had pretended to horribly dislike him while he was at the SGC, she couldn't help but feel he was just misguided...not bad.
At the end of the tape, though, she found a very interesting last bit of video. On the screen was the young Lieutenant, Aiden. "Colonel Carter," Aiden said as Sam jumped startlingly upright in her chair in front of the screen, "I have a few thoughts of McKay's that he'd like to share with you. Goodbye and good luck back at the SGC." Aiden then winked and McKay appeared on the screen again...
