Who Walks the Walk
It was a place for the fools who couldn't press on:
the ones who couldn't run full tilt into a glowing future
despite the coal that bit and burned their feet,
the ones who couldn't stare into those black river holes
for long enough to pitch themselves inward.
It was a place for those indecisive fools who walked
until they couldn't anymore, until they can't escape
their chosen fate they won't admit to long ago,
until they fall with their legs cramping and heads spinning
and stomachs twisting and hearts despairing and wishing
all in one that they'd had the strength
to act instead of wait for their demise.
