All's fair in love and war
Disclaimer: **insert standard disclaimer here** Tolkien rules over all whereas I settle for seventh grade history textbooks. Own neither, don't pretend to. No money made. A poem I wrote that was inspired by a LotR fanfic…hmm, how to explain? Let's just say that if there was a war between the men and the elves, and our beloved king Aragorn and Legolas were leading, this is something about how Legolas would see things. R&R…

All's fair in love and warAs the battlefield draws close,
Armies of thousands are preparing to win, or die trying.
And yet it simply comes down to you and I,
And who will fall to power instead of love.
You draw your sword,
Callused, world-weathered hands gripping the bejeweled hilt.
The determined shine of your eyes in the cold metal
And the smirk of victory that you've claimed as your own.
But it's a lie…an act
Your blood under my nails
Your breath on my tongue
The way your body fit so perfectly with mine…
Last week…last year…it doesn't matter
You say it was an accident, I laugh
We both know there are no accidents
It was a revelation to what I never needed to know…
And don't tell me you can't feel it too.
Doubt clouds your eyes,
a flash of fear turning the green to gray
Your hand trembles slightly.
The same uncertainties plague us both
And for all I know,
I know nothing of what you're about to do
Neither do you…
My sword next to yoursYou strike first
Choose…your pride, your people, and your joy in life
Or your love…
You bring your sword up
Banner flying proud on your shoulder
Insignia on your armor
Making you my enemy…
Your eyes harden and I know my destiny is sealed
I knew that it was at your hands that I'd fall,
But how, tell me how, could I have known
That it'd be like this?
I plead myself to you
Take me into your arms again
Make it beautiful
Make it like before…
But you're cold, and you're strongAnd leave me to die
In a cold, hard world where nothing is real
With only my memories to keep me warm…
Now strike, strike while you still can,
My foe…
My friend…
My love…
