Chapter one: Somebody's Watching Me

"Have you ever, ya know... Get the feeling your being stalked? Like in a normal way?"

I heard one of Rose's lavender felt pencils tap against her clipboard. It was funny how I remembered the specifics of the pencils Rose bought... I remember because she made me look for them with her for four hours at Walmart.

Two words:

Never again

"In what way would the stalking you are mentioning seems to be the criteria of normal for you John?" Rose asked in her stable and poised manner of speaking.

I let out a long exhale through my mouth before speaking.

"I don't know, it's like well... Like its ok for them to stalk me, like their intentions are, I don't know, not harmful like its equalized and not freaky, jeez I don't know Rose its just a feeling," I finally said.

"Well if being stalked is normal for you John then I'am very concerned about you."

"I know, I know, it's weird right? I just don't know what to do and your very smart so I thought you could tell me if it's ok for me to try and find and confront them, 'cause now it's getting more of a daily thing for me and that's where the normalcy of it just gets to me. I mean now I'am actually feeling a bit paranoid whenever I get dressed or do something in private when Karkat isn't in our dorm room... Don't ask."

Rose paused in her seat and stared off in thought while I sat on her bed playing with the pattern on her bed sheets. Recently I haven't felt too comfortable wile walking around campus because of what I said earlier. I was being stalked. How I knew this was from time to time when I walked in between classes, when I'm in the library, studying in the commons area of the dorm house and sometimes when I walk even off campus at night to go stalk up on gushers at a convenience store.

I would always get the familiar feeling of eyes boring holes through me, that sense that someone was there by the way the hair on the back of my neck stood up and sometimes when I caught a weird chuckle when I turn around to see whose there. It was freaking me out now.

"Well I think the proper precautions is to first let Jade know so you can have some cover, you know she'll be watching your back twenty-four-seven, though I would normally suggest telling a staff of the school, Jade would be the better choice sense she's your sister. You can try to find out who it is, but don't confront them, come talk to me about who it is when you do and we can evaluate some options on how to handle the situation further," Rose explained.

I nodded in agreement. I knew talking to Rose about this would be the best decision, besides she is one of my best friends since the sixth grade along with Karkat, in which surprised me when I found out he would be my roommate for my first year of college. Though it's been three weeks since I started college along with my other friends, I already feel at home here and I love the freedom as well. No more curfews or constant nagging I get from my dad. Don't get me wrong, I missed him terribly the first week away from home, but I quickly adapted to things and got over my homesickness.

After that the new problem arose with the stalking and well here we are.

"I think it would be wise for you to leave soon John, it's almost past the time for you to be allowed on the girls floor," Rose reminded me.

I looked at the cat clock in the room that read 9:55 PM on the eyes of the digital cat shaped clock on the wall. Sadly Rose was right, guys and girls are not allowed on the opposite gender floors past ten unless there was a fire or something terrible happened. I thanked Rose and gave her a quick hug before leaving. I knew that my dorm would be empty when I got there sense Karkat takes a late night class that goes on from 9:30 to 11:00, so I didn't head to my dorm and decided to take a stroll around the campus. Streaks of a purple red were staring to end at the horizon and the street lights were already on by the time I walked outside.

The night air was crisp and a bit cold from autumn beginning to roll in. I stretched and rolled my head around my neck, feeling stiff from bending under the top bunk above Rose's bed for too long. When I stopped stretching I looked up at at sky and sighed in content when a nice night breeze ran past my finger tips. I always wondered what it would be like to fly and touch the sky ever since I was little and my dad used bake too many cakes for my birthday no matter how many times I told him to stop. Jade on the other hand didn't really get to be apart of those times tough.

When our mom died our grandfather took her with him to go live somewhere in the middle of the ocean on an island (that got a surprisingly good Internet connection). Through the years Jade and I kept in contact through a chat site called pesterchum and sometimes video chatted when the timing was acceptable for the both of us. I was so happy when Jade put her foot down to grandfather and told him she was taking the next flight to California to go to college with me and experience life outside a private island. I was just too overly happy, because that meant I got to experience college with my friends and family.

I began to go around the concrete path that led in a loop through a few oak trees when I got that feeling again. I felt frustrated with the familiar sensation of eyes boring into the back of my head on the hair on the back of my neck prickle at the sense of someone watching me.

"Ok, I'am done with your petty games. Haha you got me, I'm totally loosing my mind here at your suspense and when I turn around your going to giggle like a child while I look around to attempt to find you, while you're probably hiding in the bushes," I said loudly into the wind.

Except when I spun around to glare at the empty space my eyes caught on a girl standing there looking all smug with glasses and her arms crossed leaning against a tree.
