I walk outside to get some fresh air when I see a piece of paper on the ground. "That's strange," I say. I picked up the paper and decided to see what it was. It was folded up so I unfolded it. I noticed it was a letter addressed to me, so I went ahead and read it.
To my dearest Annie,
I hope you are doing well. Times are tough right now for you, but I understand. I'm sorry I left you, it wasn't by choice, I was trying to keep you safe. I know this doesn't seem real but I promise it is. I spend time with Mags every day. She keeps telling me about how wonderful you are and she is certainly right. I think about you every moment of every day and I miss you so very much. Words can't describe how much I miss you. Will you tell our child I love him when he is born? I am so thankful he doesn't have to live through these games. Tell him the stories of our games and how we got to where we were. Tell him about what the Capitol did. Please Annie, don't forget to share the joy and the light you are living with, always keep a smile on your face. On the days where my absence feels the hardest to handle just keep smiling. Always keep smiling. Your smile always brightened my day. Tell Katniss and Peeta that I am doing fine up here and that I'm glad they found peace in their lives. Annie I hope you found peace in your life. I still remember the day we first met, crazy day right? Nobody thought you would survive your games, but I knew you could do it. You have an amount of strength no one can compare to, not just physically but emotionally and spiritually. Always keep your strength. I don't want to stop writing to you Annie but I am afraid I have to. I have to say goodbye. Promise to remember all of our memories and promise to keep on smiling. I love you so much Annie and I miss you so much.
With love, Finnick Odair
I am crying tears of joy and sorrow. I pull the letter close to my heart, "I promise Finnick, I promise."
