Just my thoughts on what would happen next if Bullet Proof were longer
"Actually, what do you know about plumbing?"
It was a simple question and he should have lied and told her that he knew nothing. He couldn't lie to her. Plumbing was the one trade that everyone had always joked he could fall back on if being a cop didn't work. So, he answer with "jump in, can't wait to see where this is going".
She gave him an address and he drove. It was only when he stopped his truck that he realized where they were. "Andy, why are we here?"
She looked down. "When I came here to track Benny down, he was fixing the sink for Marie. He told her it should hold for now and he would fix it for real later. Now, thanks to me, there is no later."
Sam put a finger on her chin and lifted her face until she was looking at him. "It wasn't your fault McNally."
The two of them got out of the car and walked up the stairs to the house. Andy knocked lightly and Marie answered the door. The two women had gotten to know each other while sitting in the hospital waiting home. Marie was like the mother Andy had always wanted. Standing at the front door looking at her, Andy made herself a promise to visit often.
Marie looked at them. "Andy?"
"I know it's late but I just got off shift and I wanted someone to look at your sink."
Marie smiled. "Thank you, come in."
Sam and Andy entered the house and Sam looked under the sink, using the same tools Benny had used hours earlier. As he worked, Marie pulled Andy into another room. "I like him" she said bluntly.
Andy smiled. "He's my training officer and that's a big no-no. How are you?"
"It's hard. I'm scared to wake up tomorrow and remember that my Benny won't be coming to visit me." Tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Andy pulled her into a hug. "I'll try to come as often as I can."
They stayed as they were until Sam called out "McNally?" and then they returned to the kitchen. "I'm done. You should be good to go."
Marie thanked him and walked them out. Sam walked Andy to the passenger side but did not let her get in. "It's not your fault. You can't win everything."
"I know but he only did the surgery for me. He was afraid of the hospital and because of me he's dead."
"No, he chose to because of the man who died in the parking lot." He knew he should have listened to Shaw but he couldn't help himself. He leaned down and kissed her gently.
Andy reacted by pulling him closer and deepening the kiss.
Inside the house, Marie D'Abramo let go of the curtain she had opened, smiling to herself.
