Severus thinks she looks beautiful in white. But then, she always looks perfect to his eyes. Today, however, she is radiant with happiness, and hope. He can hardly take his eyes off of her, but clearly, neither can the man standing on the other end of the aisle. James Potter, beaming at his wife-to-be, and Lily, smiling back at him Severus clenches his fists, hiding in the shadows. There was no invitation for him, not that he had expected one, but a part of him had hoped...
Of course, their childhood friendship doesn't matter anymore, because she is neither a child, nor his friend, she had said. He wonders if she even remembers all the time they sat in the meadow near Spinner's End, dipping their toes in the pond water and laughing about James' antics. Arrogant toe rag. That was the name she came up with, for Potter. And yet there she is, saying the vows to bind herself to him. Severus wonders, if in some parallel world, he could have been the one standing next to her. The thought only makes him more bitter.
Lily turns to the guests and her eyes sweep past his. For a moment, Severus wonders if she sees him. But then, she she pulls her husband closer and her lips are on his. Severus crumples to the ground, broken.
