At the end of Season 5 we found out that the Impala was the most important object in the universe. Here's my take on the 2nd most important object…at least for those of us that love our Angel and want him back. One Shot…may do more if the mood strikes me and/or I get some reviews!
My apologies to those waiting for updates on my other stories. My plot bunnies are comatose after the emotional train wreck of S7 1 & 2. I hope to get back to them soon.
Castiel feels the pain of his Grace leaking from him. It isn't as bad as he thought it would be, but still infinitely more pain than the human body is meant to withstand. Especially this body. This body that isn't his and the one that he has allowed the Leviathan to defile. It can't take much more before it breaks apart, ripped to shreds by the one thing he hadn't counted on when he took in the souls. Castiel smiles, if not with the face that can no longer form one, then at least inwardly as he thinks of his friends. You idjit…you went and got yourself killed. Those would be Bobby's words right now, Castiel is certain of it. The man who gave him more guidance than his own Father.
The end of the body is actually welcome. Now that the Leviathans are gone and he is but a glimmer of his former self, he has time. Time to gather the millions of particles floating in the water…the pieces and parts of the body which had grudgingly held his Angelic form. In human terms it takes mere seconds, but for Castiel the task is long, arduous, and exhausting. Once his task is done he has to think quickly about how to protect it…that which he can no longer reassemble.
As he sheds the last of his Grace he melds it with the mass of flesh and bone, then makes sure it is carefully disguised. Whether anyone would think to look for it there and in that form he could not be certain, but if his experience with the Winchesters these last years were any indication, he has a least a sliver of hope that they will realize its importance. Only time will tell. He has no way to know as he releases the coat that served as an armor of sorts for many years and watches it float to the surface. As darkness begins to take him he uses the last of his strength to send one last message.
"Keep it safe, Dean. Tell no one. I will find a way back."
