A Late Night Conversation
"Mama?" Johnna said as she gently shook Jackie awake in the middle of the night.
"What sweetheart?" Jackie asked.
"Me want to talk to you." The child replied.
"Ok sweetheart, what do you want to talk about?" Jackie asked, concerned.
"Me not know." She replied innocently. Jackie chuckled.
"You don't know?" She asked.
"No." Johnna told her.
"Why aren't you asleep kiddo?" Jackie asked.
"Me not tired."
"You're not tired, how come?" Jackie asked her.
"Me not know."
"Well, how about I tuck you back into bed and you can try to go to sleep?"
"Me not go to sleep, me not tired." Johnna insisted.
Jackie sighed inwardly, she was exhausted, all she wanted to do is go back to sleep.
"Mama?"
"What?" Jackie asked.
"Go to the park tomorrow?"
"If it doesn't rain maybe we can go to the park tomorrow." Jackie told her.
"Yay me like to go to the park, it fun." Johnna said excitedly.
"Right now though I want to tuck you back into bed so you can try to sleep."
"Me sleep with you mama?" The child asked.
"If you lay down and try to sleep I'll let you."
Johnna happily scurried up onto the bed.
Jackie waited until she got situated and then pulled the covers up over the child's legs.
"Me love you mama."
"I love you too sweetheart." Jackie told her sincerely.
Within just a couple minutes Johnna got out of bed.
"Where ya going?" Jackie asked.
"Me come back, me go get bunny." She replied.
Jackie smiled, bunny was Johnna's beloved stuffed bunny that she slept with every night.
True to her word, Johnna came right back carrying her stuffed animal.
She crawled back into bed and Jackie once again Jackie covered her legs.
Despite Johnna's claims of not being tired, she fell asleep rather quickly, and so did her mother!
