This is a little drabble I wrote based on an alternative Hunger Games Trilogy I read last year
Due to previous "incidents" Katniss has turned into a stone cold killer, the only thing motivating her now is vengeance she thinks no more of killing her enemies than of stepping on a bug, capitol citizen Peacekeeper no consequence, she's got a body count to maintain.
Story told from Gale's POV
Another Peacekeeper's head explodes in a pink mist as Katniss lowers her rifle indicating that we move up. This makes six that she's killed since we left that cat woman's shop earlier but if you count her it's seven I guess, I still can't believe Katniss shot her in the face like that she almost shot Cressida for protesting the fact.
Katnip is sure feeling bloody today she's saving her arrows for the really "important" targets, each arrow tip has been dipped in an extremely toxic substance Bee Tee developed anyone shot with one goes into immediate cardiac arrest very wicked. We slowly move ahead suddenly a form darts out from an alley but Katniss drops it almost immediately. Upon investigation we discover it's just a child we all stare at it in horror but Katniss just glares at us and growls, "What are you looking at? Get moving Peeta! Watch our flank closer that could have been a fuckin' Peacekeeper she yells.
Although we're wearing civilian coats over our uniforms and civilian shoes we stay together as a group, we move along a now deserted side street I can feel "eyes" staring at us as we near the end of the block Katniss indicates that we should get off the street as a squad of Peacekeepers is moving towards us I point to a townhouse on our left Katniss nods and we scoot towards the steps, we waste no time as Peeta kicks the door open with a crash Katniss springs forward as a man and woman begin to retreat to a rear room,
She immediately guns them down as well as two little boys who run out from another room "Peeta! Upstairs NOW! Kill anything that moves he looked at her for a moment with saddened eyes before moving towards the stairs. "Cressida Pollux in there NOW! Indicating the room where the man and woman were heading. "Gale keep an eye on those Peacekeepers." I took a position at one of the windows while she moved to another one.
"Nothing upstairs" reports Peeta as he quickly moves back down the stairs. "Check for a rear exit or any other way out of this place," he moved off into the other room I could hear Cressida sobbing softly from the other room but Katniss stayed focused on what was going on out in the street. Our luck held as the Peacekeeper patrol turned the other direction and moved north .
As we waited I glanced behind me and noticed a large pool of blood forming under the couple Katniss shot and could only think of the "old" Katniss and what this whole thing has cost her I've always suspected it was something Snow did to her after the Quarter Quell when she and Peeta returned to the capitol but she refuses to say anything. Poor Katniss, the girl on fire….On fire all right, on fire with hate!
